As a member of our team, you'll be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all Horizontal Directional Drilling construction activities for our solar projects across the US. Working closely with management teams - you'll be instrumental in the day-to-day operations of sustainable energy units on commercial solar farm sites.

Heads up: This is a physically demanding role that will require you to work in all kinds of weather. A strong work ethic will serve you well, along with prior solar or construction experience (this is a plus, not a must!).

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Plan, coordinate, and supervise directional drilling operations, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of directional drillers, rig crews, and support staff, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards, conducting regular safety audits and training sessions.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the allocation and maintenance of drilling equipment, tools, and materials to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as drilling efficiency, cost control, and project milestones, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve operational challenges, including equipment failures, geological obstacles, or logistical issues, to maintain project schedules.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit detailed reports on project progress, safety incidents, and operational performance to senior management.
  • Coordination with Engineering Teams: Work closely with drilling engineers and geologists to optimize well trajectories and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Budget Management: Monitor project expenditures, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining high-quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in directional drilling operations, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of directional drilling techniques, equipment (e.g., mud motors, MWD/LWD systems), and well planning software.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams in high-pressure field environments.
  • Safety Certifications: Valid certifications in well control (e.g., IWCF or IADC) and other relevant safety training (e.g., OSHA, H2S awareness).
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, team members, and management.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and decision-making skills to address complex operational challenges.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in remote field locations, including offshore or onshore sites, and adapt to varying schedules, including extended shifts or on-call duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced directional drilling technologies, such as rotary steerable systems or automated drilling systems.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools for optimizing drilling performance.

Requirements

  • Tasks will involve excessive and repetitive walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching, standing, lifting throughout entire shift
  • 3-5 years experience, preferably on a solar construction site
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, standards, and regulations related to civil works
  • Ability to lift up to 50-75+ pounds and remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to meet additional screening requirements
  • Knowledge of basic equipment hand signals
  • Verifiable references of professional skills and work history/resume
  • Attention to performance details

The annual rate for this position is anticipated to range between $135,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year. This range is a good-faith estimate, based on the qualifications necessary for the position, including but not limited to experience, training, and other considerations permitted by law. Factors that may be used when making an offer may include a candidate's skills and experience, the expected quality and quantity of work, and internal pay alignment, as needed. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the pay range. The upper end of the range will generally be reserved for candidates with extensive skills and experience. An employee's pay history will not be a contributing factor where prohibited by local law.
