Position Summary:
The Senior Manager, Electrical Projects leads complex, multi‑disciplinary technical projects that directly support safe, reliable, and efficient fleet operations. This role oversees planning, execution, compliance, and delivery of major electrical engineering initiatives—including dry‑dock scopes, modernization programs, corrective action projects, equipment upgrades, and cross‑fleet electrical standardization efforts. In addition, this role provides technical support and guidance to the Royal Caribbean Group fleet and shoreside colleagues as needed.
The ideal candidate brings strong engineering depth, maritime operational awareness, and the ability to drive structured execution across shipboard teams, fleet technical management, OEMs, classification societies, and shoreside technical departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Leadership and Execution
- Lead end‑to‑end delivery of fleet electrical projects (CAPEX)—from concept development through execution, testing, and closeout.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations across multiple vessels and ship classes.
- Manage dry‑dock and in‑service project packages, ensuring readiness, schedule adherence, and safe execution in close collaboration with Marine Technical Operations.
- Ensure seamless coordination across Marine Technology, onboard engineering teams, Supply Chain, Fleet Captains, Ship Managers/Fleet Directors, and external partners.
- Drive proactive risk management, operational impact assessments, and contingency planning for shipboard environments.
Technical Oversight
- Translate operational and regulatory requirements into clear technical scopes, engineering specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- Review and validate engineering proposals, technical documentation, drawings, HAZIDs/HAZOPs, commissioning plans, and FAT/SAT deliverables.
- Ensure solutions meet RCG fleet standards, classification society requirements, flag‑state regulations, and environmental/safety expectations.
- Support root‑cause analyses, Corrective Action Reports, reliability improvements, and lifecycle management strategies.
Cross‑Functional and Shipboard Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary link between shipboard leadership, fleet technical teams, OEMs, and shoreside management when it comes to electrical projects.
- Provide concise, actionable project updates and executive summaries for technical and operational leadership.
- Facilitate cross‑departmental decisions for electrical systems changes, equipment upgrades, and operational process improvements.
- Support knowledge transfer and lessons learned across the fleet and between shore-based colleagues.
Vendor and Contract Management
- Oversee shipyard, OEM, and electrical engineering consultant activities, including technical deliverables, quality assurance, and onsite supervision.
- Validate vendor readiness, manpower planning, safety compliance, and adherence to vessel‑specific constraints.
- Support procurement in vendor qualification, bid evaluation, technical scoring, and contract negotiations.
Quality, Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all work aligns with class rules, SOLAS, MARPOL, USCG, ISO standards, and company SMS requirements.
- Integrate safety‑by‑design and reliability engineering into planning and project execution.
- Conduct post‑project reviews to document findings, preventive actions, and best practices for future fleetwide application.
Operational Management
- Offer first and second-level support for electrical and automation systems to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient vessel operations.
- Maintain effective communication with the Marine Technology team, Marine Technical Operations, and senior Marine Management onboard.
- Work closely with Ship Managers, keeping them informed about electrical issues and overseeing electrical projects.
- Coordinate major electrical and automation projects with Ship Managers and senior Marine Management.
- Supervise and support repairs and maintenance of vessel electrical systems.
- Ensure shipboard electrical teams are engaged in safety initiatives and adhere to safety practices.
Financial Responsibilities
- Manage CAPEX budget components, cost forecasts, and contract variations.
- Ensure accurate project justifications, business cases, and ROI analyses.
- Optimize internal and external resources, including riding teams, contractors, and shipyard services.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- Background in Electrical, Electronic, and Power Engineering.
- Over 15 years of experience in the shipping industry, classification society, or similar.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field (or international equivalent) highly desirable.
- Experience as a passenger vessel Chief Electrical Engineer preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for a multicultural environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities efficiently.
- Financial acumen, including cost efficiency management.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to sit, stand, write, review/type reports, compile data, operate a computer, communicate, and assess information.
- May require movement around office complexes, travel, and occasional lifting (10–15 pounds).
- Work environment includes both office and non-office setting, which can include walking onto and off of ships, bending, stooping, reaching, and working in confined spaces along with working in various types of weather conditions.
