Overall Responsibility:

The Benefits & Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing both benefits and payroll for the employees of Trellance. This role will also be responsible for administering the benefit programs to include open enrollment, new hire enrollments, change reporting, and approving invoices for payment. In addition, the Benefits and Payroll Manager will also process, review, and balance monthly payroll, ensure payroll transactions are processed correctly for time, earnings, benefits, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and other items that affect pay &/or company liability.

Payroll:

  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing system to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely updates for items needed for payroll including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identify and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Interact with and be the point of contact with our payroll vendor.
  • Respond to employee payroll questions.
  • Set up payroll accounts in various States as needed.

Benefits:

  • Execute and administer activities related to benefit plan eligibility, enrollments, status changes, and terminations.
  • Research, problem solve and respond to issues related to benefit programs, employees inquiries, HR and third party vendors (includes brokers, insurance providers, regulatory agencies, etc.).
  • Review and monitor data integration reports to identify and address inaccuracies and systems errors.
  • Prepare and action weekly, monthly changes in provider portals as needed.
  • Review, action, and reconcile system generated reports as needed (HSA & FSA).
  • Understand, interpret, and effectively communicate benefit plan provisions, policies, programs, process, and practice to employees.
  • Assist with the administration of wellness programs and vendors.
  • Administer invoicing and payment processes for benefit vendors including validating payments within the defined vendor management framework and doing monthly reconciliations.
  • Process and administer all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
  • Administers the tuition reimbursement and professional development program.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Perform testing activities for benefits administration systems implementations, changes and ongoing enhancements.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of four (4) of experience in the related field; alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the related field.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • 5+ years of experience processing payroll & benefits administration in a multi-state organization.
  • General knowledge and understanding of HR policies, processes, employment laws and total rewards.
  • Experience working in a rapid, fast-moving environment which is both complex and changing.
  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with payroll software.
  • Professional Payroll certification is preferred.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • Professional Compensation Certification(s) a plus.
