General Summary of the Position of Clinical Chaplain Associate

Clinical Chaplain Associates are in the process of completing academic and/or clinical education in preparation for professional chaplaincy roles. This transitional position, while preparing for professional ministry is therefore temporary in nature (for no more than 5 years). These ministers in training are responsible for providing excellence in spiritual care in the clinical context.

As a Clinical Chaplain Associate, you will provide spiritual care to AdventHealth’s patients, families, team members and partners. Clinical Chaplain Associates participate as part of the clinical healthcare team in assessing spiritual needs for patients and their families at the bedside or in short-term spiritual support situations for families and care team members in inpatient, outpatient, urgent-care, physician clinics and practices, corporate campuses, via tele-health platforms and other healthcare related specialized care settings.

By providing clinical core services, Clinical Chaplain Associates participate in ministry to care teams by fostering a sense of mission that enhances a culture of trust, the experience of belonging for all, and a future of hope within the healthcare context and among the healthcare providers on the team. Clinical Chaplain Associates participate in providing outstanding customer respect and service through modeling respectful and mature relationships to all. Clinical Chaplain Associates carry the responsibility of reminding others through their behavior what it means to extend the ministry of Christ by leading as models of integrity, love, grace, personal emotional and spiritual integration, and by valuing every encounter as a spiritual encounter.


Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    • Bachelor’s degree in theology, spiritual care or pastoral ministry
    • Minimum of 1 unit of ACPE, Inc. Accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (Level 1 and 2 engaged)
    • Licensure, Certification or Registration Recognition of good standing with a the Seventh-day Adventist Church (licensure, ordination, or reference of good standing)
    • Commitment to pursuing and obtaining a Master of Divinity or other graduate theological degree (72-hour minimum) and a total of at least 4 units of ACPE, Inc accredited CPE

        • Attends and participates in mandatory facility-wide and department training/meetings as required (including but not limited to: ALN, safety training, etc.). Is able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of fire, safety, security, and disaster procedure regulations as presented in orientation, outlined in the safety manual, and as pertains to each work area.
        • Required to respond to emergency situations (i.e. disasters, hurricanes, etc.) by reporting to department and staying until the crisis is over or your position is covered by incoming personnel. This is a mandatory requirement. Refusal to respond may result in termination.

Clinical Chaplain Associates are expected to spend 90% of their work time in provision of direct patient care and team member support; 10% of their work time will be spent on administrative responsibilities and preparation for ministry.
