MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in art and one (1) year of commercial art or illustrating experience; or
Completion of a program of study in commercial/advertising art or studio or applied art from a vocational/technical school, commercial art school or community college and three (3) years of illustrating or commercial art experience.
Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Requires possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

Actual hours of work shift will be established by supervisor and based on providing departmental coverage for established business hours. Some weekend and evening travel required for completing reviews and attendance/presentations at conferences and meetings.
JOB DUTIES:
General: Responsible for the creation, development, coordination, production and maintenance of graphic materials for the Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness. Ensures visual consistency of materials within the division and within the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) standardization guidelines.
Designs and prepares mechanical illustration and imaging support for outreach, promotional and training materials for all programs in both print and electronic media. Materials may include brochures, banners, flyers, posters, web banner ads, outdoor displays, etc.
Designs and prepares layouts, illustrations and photography in the development of visual material. Determines copy space for story. Selects, sizes and arranges illustrations.
Prepares original artwork and photographs for publication. Maintains files of all design work, images and illustrations.
Procures and prepares outreach material from vendors. Reviews, approves and ensures the quality of work delivered to and from vendors for the development and completion of outreach and education marketing materials. Ensures consistency of program information content. Demonstrates expanded knowledge of the Adobe After Effects software.
Assesses division needs and determines graphic design formats, techniques and composition options to assure conformance with graphic arts standards and the goals of the division and department. Participates in creative strategy meetings.
Writes and prepares bid specifications for printing requests. Reviews proofs for accuracy. Coordinates all graphics production elements to ensure that deadlines are met.
Assists with the emergency management functions of the bureau during periods of disaster.
Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

- Knowledge of graphic design formats, techniques, and composition options.
- Knowledge of visual design theory.
- Knowledge of print and mail production.
- Skill in a variety of computer applications used in graphic design.
- Skill in preparing exhibits, displays and three-dimensional models.
- Skill in preparing renderings.
- Skill in using free hand and mechanical methods to produce graphic materials such as posters, illustrations, covers, brochures, booklets, and pamphlets.
- Skill in producing accurate and detailed reproductions from memory, photographs or direct objects.
- Ability to design illustrations, exhibits, displays and models.
- Ability to secure factual information.
- Ability to transform verbal information and data into artwork.
- Ability to advise others on the most effective types of displays.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work in a setting requiring self-motivation/cooperative decision-making and to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
