Job Description General Functions: The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for assisting their assigned Project Manager in the planning, administrative management, project completion, client satisfaction, and financial outcome of assigned projects. The Assistant Project Manager will work with their assigned Project Manager to help achieve their respective project management objectives. Acts as the Project Manager in his or her absence.
Work is performed with independence under the direction of the Project Manager or assigned supervisor and is reviewed on a regular basis through observations, conferences, and results achieved.
Representative Duties/Assignments: ¿ Assists in the development of project planning, proposals, cost estimates and budgets, timelines and schedules.
¿ Performs administrative management of multiple concurrent projects including procuring consultants, negotiating contracts, reporting and monitoring. Projects may include stormwater drainage evaluations, retrofits, roadway assessments, geotechnical investigations, and other infrastructure maintenance related projects.
¿ Provides technical management of projects including assessment of needs, development and evaluation of project plans and specifications.
¿ Coordinates projects for the Division, from project design to project delivery.
¿ Conducts quality control activities in accordance with instructions, inspection programs, using specified control measuring and testing equipment.
¿ Conducts historical data research for effective project planning.
¿ Assists in the coordination of all personnel: employees, vendors, contractors, etc. necessary to complete the project. Maintains effective and productive communications with team members, internal/external customers and vendors.
¿ Coordinates and assists in the development of presentations for project management proposals and status updates.
¿ Interact directly with citizens for specific projects and attend/conduct public meetings related to the projects. Manages media relations, if required.
¿ Participation in emergency preparation, response and recovery during hurricanes and adverse weather events, as assigned.
¿ Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Building Construction, Architecture, Planning, Business Administration, Management or Civil Engineering, or a closely related field, and three (3) years of progressive experience in contracts administration, financial/budget administration and tracking, or construction and inspections of roadways and stormwater drainage maintenance work, and two (2) years of project management experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Preferences: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point), and proficiency in computer usage and databases. Knowledge of FDOT specifications, cost estimates and budget tracking, stormwater modeling programs, GIS, AutoCAD. Experience in managing Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) from evaluation, design, permitting and construction. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
