Classification Minimum Requirements:
High school and five (5) years of experience in inspection or the construction trades. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Job Description:
Perform on-site construction inspections to ensure compliance with adopted codes, approved plans, and specifications.
Perform in-depth safety plan reviews for all new construction and renovation projects for facilities associated with UF.
Prepare written reports approving or rejecting construction plans in accordance with the adopted codes
Record inspection results and plan review comments in permit tracking software 08%] - Approve installation of materials and methods for compliance with adopted codes [05%] - Operate UF/state vehicle(s) to and from inspection sites.
Make decisions as to code interpretations in area of expertise.
Represent the department in area of expertise to various groups, such as architects and/or engineers, contractors, or subcontractors.
Other duties as assigned.
Eligible for certifications by the Department of Professional Regulations as a building, plumbing, mechanical, fire or electrical inspector.
Employee must complete certification within first six months of employment.
Prefer certification as a building, plumbing, mechanical, fire or electrical plans reviewer by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Prefer certification in multiple disciplines.
Valid Florida driver license Required.
Post offer heath assessment and background check required.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM 40 hours per week
Travel to and from inspection sites.
Expected Salary:
$60,000 - $64,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications:

Preferred:
EDUCATION & TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree in building construction.
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years construction experience in each field of experience for which certified inspector and plan reviewer in the electrical trades.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of Florida building, mechanical, plumbing, and/or electrical codes
- Knowledge of current construction procedures
- Knowledge of proper building inspection procedures
- Knowledge of Florida state statutes and regulations applying to construction related projects SKILLS: None noted
ABILITIES:
- Ability to read building blueprints and floor plans
- Ability to read and understand construction specifications
- Ability to take accurate measurements
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

- Ability to work in excessively noisy areas
