Assistant Controller (Tampa)
Overview:
Seeking an experienced Assistant Controller with a strong background in Property & Casualty insurance. This role supports financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and accounting operations in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. The position offers high visibility and requires both technical expertise and leadership capability.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee month-end close, financial reporting, and general ledger activities
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting
Compliance & Controls
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies
- Ensure compliance with SOX, GAAP, and statutory reporting requirements
- Coordinate audits and serve as liaison to external auditors and regulators
- Oversee quarterly and annual statutory filings
Technical Accounting
- Research and resolve complex accounting issues
- Support statutory and GAAP reporting requirements
- Prepare financial analysis, variance reporting, and executive summaries
- Assist with regulatory and rating agency requests
Leadership
- Supervise and develop accounting staff
- Support team performance, training, and process improvements
- Foster a collaborative, accountable team environment
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 7+ years of accounting experience
- 5+ years within Property & Casualty insurance
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting
- Prior leadership or team management experience
Technical Skills:
- Advanced Excel
- Experience with general ledger systems (e.g., ERP platforms)
- Working knowledge of SQL or data querying tools preferred
