Fleet Mechanic
Job Description
This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining semi-trucks and trailers with a strong emphasis on diesel equipment. You will perform both preventative and reactive maintenance, ensuring vehicles operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The position combines hands-on mechanical work with basic use of digital tools to manage work orders and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair semi-trucks and trailers, with approximately 80% of work performed on diesel equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on diesel trucks and trailers to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Repair and maintain trailers, including wiring and repairing brake lights, replacing brakes, changing tires, and repairing hydraulic systems.
- Conduct DOT inspections on trucks and trailers and document all findings accurately and thoroughly.
- Replace components such as water pumps and air conditioning systems as needed.
- Use an iPad to receive work orders, log repairs, and check out parts through the digital work order system.
- Perform welding or use torches when necessary to complete repairs on trucks and trailers.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems on trailers and related equipment.
- Ensure all work follows safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- At least 2 years of hands-on diesel maintenance experience.
- Proven experience working on brakes for trucks and trailers.
- Certifications to perform brake repair work, as required for the role.
- Hydraulic system experience, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Trailer maintenance experience, including hydraulics and general troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform DOT inspections and accurately document inspection findings.
- Ability to use an iPad or similar device to manage work orders, log repairs, and track parts.
- Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and working with tools and equipment in a shop environment.
- Experience changing tires on semi-trucks and trailers.
- Experience repairing and wiring trailer brake lights and related electrical components.
- Experience replacing water pumps and air conditioning systems on diesel equipment.
- Ability to weld or use torches safely and effectively when required.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and hydraulic issues.
- Attention to detail in documentation, inspections, and repair records.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to maintenance and inspection standards.
You will work in a supportive environment that provides practical benefits and opportunities for growth. After 90 days, you receive a steel-toe boot stipend and continue to receive a new stipend each year. Work Environment
You will work in an open bay shop equipped with numerous fans and swamp coolers to improve comfort during warmer conditions. The environment is hands-on and tool-intensive, with regular use of diesel diagnostic tools, hydraulic equipment, welding or torch equipment, and digital devices such as an iPad for work order management. Two weeks of uniforms are provided and laundered weekly, and a changing room is available on site. The facility also offers on-site amenities including a gym and a clinic, supporting both your health and daily routine.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $34.00 - $34.00/hr.
