2nd Electrical Engineer
Position Summary:
The job of the 2nd Electrical Engineer is primarily as an operator and maintainer of electrical and electronic equipment, occasionally installation of new equipment will be required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- The position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of chemicals, supplies and equipment.
- Request additional manpower as needed (from the Chief Electrical Engineer) for repair and maintenance under his responsibility.
- Keep the Chief Electrical Engineer verbally informed on a daily basis the status of all areas of responsibility.
- A work report book should be updated daily with more detailed information and kept in the Chief Electrical Engineer's office for his reference.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, instruction manuals and schematic diagrams for equipment that has electrical and electronic components.
- Closing boiler plate.
Hiring Requirements:
Any person hired as a 2nd Electrical Engineer will have completed a training course that:
- Meet the requirements of SOLAS, STCW and other regulations that are applicable aboard Cruise Vessels to work with low voltage electrical equipment
- Provides them with the skills deemed appropriate to work safely and effectively with low voltage electrical equipment
- Provides them with the skills to operate, maintain and troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment. It is not adequate to have training or competence only in the installation of electrical and electronic equipment
- A person that holds a License as a Ships Deck or Engineering Officer and meets the requirements of a - c above can be hired as a 2nd Electrical Engineer.
- A person that holds a college or university degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or an ancillary field and meets the requirements of a - c above can be hired as a 2nd Electrical Engineer
- A training course that provides instruction only in electrical or electronic installation is not acceptable.
Language Requirements:
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
