SUMMARY: Supports the management staff in food management operations as well as performs food service activities of establishment by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

Inspects food and performs food preparation to maintain quality standards and sanitation regulations.

Adheres to established security, sales, and recordkeeping procedures and practices.

Uses a computer system or POS to total prices and tax on merchandise purchased by customer to determine bill; and accepts payment and makes change.

Cleans and maintains equipment, floors, tables, and glass etc.

Keeps record of sales, prepares inventory of stock and orders merchandise, as assigned; and assists management in ordering Food and Beverage by creating par levels.

Investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints.

Maintains an appearance and presents an attitude conducive to visitor service goals and objectives of the Museum.

Ensures the interests, needs and concerns of the customer are responded to promptly, and with courtesy.

Communicates effectively on telephone and reliably records messages, including school lunch orders and catering requests.

Creates prep lists and inventory par levels based on flow of business.

Assists management with catering and rentals needs outside of café working hours; includes set up, serving, breaking, inventory, and other needs as assigned by management.

Assists management as need, which may include other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Three to six months restaurant or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Should be familiar with basic first aid procedures with respect to choking, minor bumps, burns, cuts, scrapes punctures, and insect bites or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and to write correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATED, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must become familiar with and pass testing on professional food handlers material. Attend Department of Business Regulation class if required. Valid Florida Driver’s License and Safe Driving Record.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of computers and experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook Software; experience with multi-line phone systems, fax machine, copier machines, and cash registers. Must be knowledgeable in general POS systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee frequently works in crowded or congested conditions requiring him/her to interact with others.
