Job Summary:

The role of the Hospitalist is to provide high quality, cost-effective, and evidence-based medical care to hospitalized patients. The Hospitalist is expected to provide clinical care for patients admitted at our affiliated hospitals, support surgical and specialty services through consultative general internal medicine practice, coordinate care at discharge, and facilitate hand-offs to outpatient physicians.

Primary Functions:

• Assess, evaluate, and manage patients in the acute setting, including histories, physical exams, and ongoing care.
• Diagnose and actively manage patient conditions, including evaluation and treatment.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary rounds at the site.
• Order, conduct, and interpret diagnostic tests and labs.
• Perform procedures such as suturing, wound care, incision and drainage, and splinting.
• Prescribe or recommend pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, including controlled medications.
• Consult with appropriate physicians for patient care needs.
• Refer patients to appropriate care sources as needed.
• Ensure efficient resource utilization and support clinical pathway implementation and compliance.
• Make timely referrals to tertiary care facilities in consultation with primary or attending physicians.

Education, Training, Experience:

• Doctorate in medicine (MD or DO).
• Completion of advanced graduate medical education in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible (IM or FP).
• Active Florida medical license in good standing.
• DEA license eligible/active.

• Effective communication skills in written, verbal, and electronic formats.

• Ability to collaborate with colleagues to deliver quality healthcare.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Computer literacy.

Additional Qualifications:

• Experience with electronic medical records systems (EPIC preferred).
• Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.

Relationship Reporting:

Reports to the Chief Medical Officer / Executive Director.

Physical Requirements:

• Effective communication with patients and staff.
• Ability to sit, stand, or view a computer screen for extended periods.
• Repetitive hand and wrist motions.
• Use of hands and fingers to handle or feel.
• Reach with hands and arms.
