General Job Description Our model aspires to make learning fun and engaging, and to grow the potential of our Teaching Fellows (TFs), staff, and Scholars in a supportive environment. Academic Instructional Coaches (ICs) are experienced and successful professional educators who provide content specific support for BTM Teaching Fellows throughout the summer and engage fully in the BTM community. Exemplary ICs effectively communicate content specifics to Teaching Fellows, guides TFs through effective planning and execution, and hold TFs to high standards. Each IC will have a group of TFs in their department(s) and is expected to lead department meetings, observe TFs in classes at least once a week, evaluate project plans, and meet individually with TFs regarding their ongoing work.
Specific Instructional Coach Duties
Pre-summer:
- Complete training sessions (Saturday, May 9 & Saturday, May 16, 2026)
- Consult with BTM staff regarding 5th-9th grade academic content in your specific content area in April/May
- Meet with site staff to plan orientation workshops
Teaching Fellow Orientation:
- Help facilitate workshops on topics such as classroom management, project planning, creating classroom culture, etc.
- Participate fully in orientation workshops
- Work with Teaching Fellows to design six-weeks’ worth of unit plans/daily plans
Six-Week Summer Program:
- Guide TFs through developing project plans and locating appropriate teaching resources
- Provide TFs with support and regular feedback as they design project plans
- Observe each TF in your department weekly, followed by a debriefing session in which TFs receive concrete feedback based on Breakthrough’s Teaching Rubrbic
- Communicate regularly with Site Director to discuss TF progress
- Plan and lead departmental meetings weekly
- Lead profession development sessions per the needs of your department per week
- Engage fully in the BTM community, sharing your passion for teaching, learning, and leading
- Assist in the guidance of Teaching Assistants (TAs) who work with the TFs
Evaluation Week:
- Read and edit advisory portion of Scholar evaluations submitted by Teaching Fellows
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- State of Florida Teaching Certificate or equivalent
- Outstanding track record as a professional classroom teacher
- Superior presentation, writing, and organizational skills
- High degree of flexibility; ability to multitask between projects
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Ability to hold others to high standards, while also offering support and maintaining positive relationships
- Ability to deliver positive, constructive, and honest feedback; both written and verbal
- Knowledge of subject matter and broad knowledge of available resources
- Comfort and confidence in working with children and adults
Schedule and Compensation
Dates and Times:
Prior to Summer Program: A few hours a week in May, as needed
Required Staff Training: May 10 & May 17, 2026, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Start Date: June 6, 2026
Teaching Fellow Orientation: June 6- June 12, 2026, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Summer Program: June 15 -July 24, 2026, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., may start earlier depending on site schedule
Evaluation Week: July 27–July 31, 2026, as needed
Compensation:
$4,500 stipend (paid over three pay periods)
