Retail Business Development Coordinator

Description
Plans, organizes, coordinates and implements programs that support the mission of the Economic Development Office in strengthening the City's economy through marketing and economic growth; implements City-wide strategic and operating initiatives; administers events and programs focused on attracting and retaining best businesses; and effectively market the City for success. Receives general direction from higher level management. May exercise direct supervision over assigned technical and administrative support personnel. The position requires a technically skilled professional who will support the mission of the department and will work proactively with other departments, to market the City and to administer events and programming by the department. In addition, the position will support the City's initiatives, business community support and development, and assist with various other objectives. This position will exercise considerable independent judgment under general supervision.
Examples of Duties
- Responsible for developing and implementing a retail strategy.
- Build relationships with prospective retailers and landlords/brokers and match new retailers with appropriate space.
- Build a rapport with property owners and their real estate representatives; serve as a point of contact between them and prospective tenants.
- Travel as needed to trade shows and other events to attract retailers (may be extensive).
- Utilize software to feature available sites/spaces on the EDO webpage.
- Utilize software to identify prospective retailers. Update key demographic data and information important to retail recruitment.
- Work with prospective retailers from initial contact through to store opening.
- Work with existing retailers who may need assistance.
- Coordinate activities with City staff and departments.
- Participate in business retention and expansion program to grow economic base, capital investment and jobs.
- Participate in community meetings with businesses and residents.
- Coordinates and shares information as necessary with EDO.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Public or Business Administration, Real Estate, Planning or other related field, supplemented by two (2) to three (3) years of experience in the field of community development, urban planning and redevelopment, real estate development, real estate finance, economic development; will also consider administrative experience with increasing responsibility. Industry experience required.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
