PUMP SERVICER

POSITION GOAL

To maintain proper operation of pumps servicing the irrigation requirements of grounds and lawns within the properties of the Broward County School District.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Pump Servicer, Journeyperson shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below:

  • Diagnose cause of pump failures; dismantle pumps and repair or replace defective parts, using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect, test and certify to the proper operation of pumps, water lines, valves, sprinklers, automated systems including pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, or other related components, and other mechanisms within the irrigation system.
  • Determine location of malfunctions within the irrigation system and report such malfunctions or arrange for repair or servicing.
  • Repair and replace valves as necessary.
  • Test the performance of repaired pumps.
  • Install new pumps and peripheral equipment.
  • Determine and order needed supplies and parts.
  • Direct the activities of assigned helpers.
  • Prepare records and reports.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman/Supervisor.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • Six (6) years of recent Pump Servicer Mechanical experience.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license. This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

OR

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Broward County School district's Apprenticeship Program for Pump Servicer.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license. This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to interpret isometric drawings and to read blueprints. Provide own hand tools. As stipulated by Human Resources, must pass tests appropriate to certify and demonstrate competency in the job.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.
