Job Title: Remote Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Medical Abstraction & Indexing

Location: Remote (Must reside within 1 hour of Jacksonville, FL)

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Position Summary

Vaco is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to support medical abstraction and indexing services in a remote environment. This role is responsible for reviewing, abstracting, and accurately documenting clinical information from medical records while ensuring compliance with healthcare privacy regulations.

Candidates must live within a one-hour commuting distance of Jacksonville, Florida, to participate in required on-site orientation, equipment pick-up, and training. Following successful completion of onboarding, this position will be fully remote.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Abstract and index clinical data from patient medical records.
• Review, analyze, and accurately document medical information within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
• Transfer and reconcile patient information between paper charts and electronic records.
• Navigate multiple EHR/EMR platforms while maintaining data integrity and accuracy.
• Meet productivity and quality metrics in a remote work environment.
• Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and HITECH guidelines regarding patient confidentiality and data security.
• Collaborate with internal teams to resolve documentation discrepancies and support project objectives.

Required Qualifications

• Active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification.
• Must reside within a one-hour commuting distance of Jacksonville, FL.
• Availability to work a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week.
• Recent healthcare-related work experience within the last six months.
• Strong computer proficiency and data entry skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with medical documentation and EMR/EHR systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Medical transcription experience.
• Experience in nursing, cardiology, multi-specialty practices, or medical billing and coding.
• Prior experience with medical abstraction and indexing projects.

Specialized Experience Required

Cardiology Experience

Candidates must possess:

• Prior cardiology experience.
• Knowledge of cardiovascular terminology and procedures.
• Understanding of various cardiology testing and procedure types.
• Ability to accurately identify and abstract cardiology-specific clinical information from medical records.

Training & Onboarding

Required On-Site Activities:

• Equipment pick-up
• New hire orientation
• Initial training (approximately 5 days)

Post-Training Work Arrangement:

• Fully remote after successful completion of onboarding requirements.
