Junior Engine Man
Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, the Junior Engine Man performs washing and painting tasks and assists with maintenance work to support shipboard engineering operations. This role requires a safety-first mindset and strict adherence to The Royal Way, Anchored in Excellence Credo, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and all environmental and safety policies. Work may be required in various engine spaces and other shipboard locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform washing, painting, and surface-prep tasks in assigned engine spaces and other shipboard areas as directed by the Chief Engineer or supervisors.
Participate in planned and unplanned maintenance activities under supervision; assist with routine inspections and equipment servicing.
Keep engine spaces clean, safe, and organized; ensure tools and equipment are stored properly after use.
Adhere to and promote Anchored in Excellence, The Royal Way, SQM standards, and environmental and safety policies; report safety or policy concerns to supervision.
Identify and report environmental system malfunctions immediately to the immediate supervisor.
Attend meetings, training sessions, and other required work-related activities on board or ashore.
Perform related duties as assigned; may be required to undertake additional job-related tasks as directed by supervision.
Qualifications & Training:
Hiring Requirements: The Junior Engine Man must hold the certificates required by the Flag State and complete basic safety training prior to employment.
Internal Candidate Requirements: In addition to hiring requirements, internal candidates may be required to fulfill specified criteria, such as completion of one full contract with a satisfactory or above rating (as applicable).
Certifications: Other certificates or trainings may be required by the Flag State or Royal Caribbean policies.
Language Requirements:
Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests and crew.
Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures; effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French, or German is preferred.
Physical & Environment Requirements:
Physical: Regularly stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with arms and hands; talk and hear. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Environmental: Must be able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills; operate in shipboard environments with exposure to heat, fumes, noise, and variable weather conditions; wear appropriate PPE; work in confined spaces or at height as required.
Additional: Must comply with all safety, environmental, and safety policy requirements and immediately report any environmental system malfunctions or unsafe conditions to supervision. Full use of arms, legs, vision, hearing, and communication abilities is required to perform duties effectively, including emergency procedures and lifeboat operations.
