MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or
Anticipated receipt of a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university within six (6) months of the closing date of this advertisement.
NOTE: Applicants in this category will not be appointed until they have acquired and provide final proof of receiving the required degree.
A bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees in Forestry or a related field obtained outside the United States must either: 1) be obtained from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or 2) curriculum must include at least two (2) of the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration or Forest Management.

JOB DUTIES:
This position is responsible for a variety of forest and ecosystem management programs on Cary State Forest (CSF).
Manage CSF for maximum use of multiple resources (timber, wildlife, recreation, water and environmental education). This includes preparation and revision of forest management plans, timber marking and volume estimation, timber sales, site preparation and tree planting, disease problems, wildlife habitat development, conducting environmental education programs, use of Best Management Practices, and forest road and boundary maintenance. Provide technical assistance in planning, conducting and evaluating prescribed burning operations. Provide assistance to other state forests as needed.
Develop, coordinate and oversee operational plans and work projects for CSF. This includes working with the Forest Area Supervisor to set priorities and use Forest Rangers in forest management operations and training Forest Rangers in technical forestry activities.
Provide wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assist in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation. Assist in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulation.
Provide administrative maintenance of CSF budgets, correspondence, forest management records and monthly accomplishment reports and other related administrative duties.
Promote forest and ecosystem management programs through media contacts, schools, clubs and other organizations.
Perform other related work as assigned, which may include the handling of revenue.
