Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Tax Manager to join our dynamic team. As a Tax Manager, you will play a critical role in supervising and mentoring a team of tax professionals, managing client relationships, and ensuring the effective use of internal resources. While the primary focus of the role is on corporate tax services, you will also be responsible for handling individual and partnership tax returns, covering both federal and state tax matters. As part of our growing firm, you will have the chance to shape tax strategies, oversee complex tax compliance work, and be a trusted advisor to our clients, helping them navigate an ever-evolving tax landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Review:
- Lead and review the work of tax staff, ensuring that all tax filings are accurate, complete, and comply with relevant regulations.
- Provide guidance on technical tax matters and ensure staff maintain the highest quality standards in their work.
- Offer constructive feedback to enhance staff development and improve efficiency.
Client Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and fostering trust.
- Guide clients through complex tax planning, advising them on strategies to optimize their tax position.
- Provide proactive recommendations to clients on tax-saving opportunities and compliance risks, ensuring they meet their tax obligations while maximizing benefits.
- Manage client expectations and deliver excellent customer service throughout the year.
Resource Management:
- Allocate internal resources effectively to ensure that tax deadlines are met and workflows are optimized.
- Work closely with senior leadership to monitor the workload and ensure tax staff are appropriately assigned and supported.
- Coordinate with other departments or teams, as needed, to meet the needs of clients and the firm.
Tax Preparation & Review:
- Prepare and review corporate, individual, and partnership tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Analyze complex tax issues, identify potential risks, and recommend solutions for clients.
- Oversee the timely and accurate filing of tax returns, ensuring all deadlines are met.
Team Leadership:
- Lead by example, inspiring a high level of professional performance and engagement from junior tax staff.
- Provide ongoing mentoring and coaching to junior team members, helping them develop their technical skills and professional growth.
- Support staff in their career development by fostering a positive, collaborative environment.
- Encourage teamwork and facilitate open communication between staff members and other departments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- CPA or JD with a tax focus (required).
- Masters in Tax or an MBA (preferred).
- 7-10 years in tax preparation, preferably in public accounting.
- 3-5 years’ experience managing a tax team and advising senior leadership.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Experience with tax provisions (ASC 740) and tax planning strategies.
- Leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in tax software
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
- Experience with international tax issues is a plus.
