_Teacher, Academy Life Skills / Personal Finance Literacy (FLA)
FLA is seeking a full-time passionate, innovative, and student-centered Life Skills/Personal Finance Literacy teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. In the State of Florida these courses fall under the category of Social Studies, and this teacher will be a member of the History/Social Studies Department. This teacher will equip students with practical knowledge and essential life competencies needed for success in adulthood, college, career, and responsible citizenship, and will inspire students to develop financial responsibility, decision-making skills, personal accountability, leadership, communication, and independent living skills within a Christ-centered educational environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about young people and committed to fostering academic excellence while preparing students to navigate real-world responsibilities with confidence, wisdom, and integrity. In addition to teaching, other sponsorship and supervision responsibilities will be assigned. The teacher must be a team player and willing to collaborate with colleagues in managing a holistic program for high schoolers. Applicants for this position must model Christ-like behavior and attitudes that will positively impact students in leading them to Christ. She/He must be able to deliver instruction to students using a variety of teaching methods and activities.
Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
Applicant must be a tithe-paying Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing and have the legal right to work in the United States, providing evidence if employed. A minimum of a bachelor's degree (in education, Business, Finance, Family & Consumer Sciences, or a related field) and North American Division (Denominational) Teacher Certification is required and must be maintained (or must agree to work towards obtaining NAD Certification). A minimum of three years of successful experience teaching secondary students (middle/high school) is preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include:
- A strong knowledge of financial literacy principles, career readiness, and life skills development.
- The ability to create engaging, relevant, and practical learning experiences.
- A strong relational leadership and mentorship ability and a commitment to mentoring and developing the whole student academically, socially, and spiritually.
- Experience with project-based learning and experiential instruction.
- The ability to connect Biblical values to leadership, stewardship, responsibility, and decision-making.
- The knowledge of financial tools, budgeting software, and digital learning platforms.
Job Responsibilities:
The teacher will be expected to:
- Promote the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, ensuring that all subject matter is taught from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective based on curriculum guidelines and requirements of the North American Division, Southern Union Conference, and Florida Conference
- Establish and maintain a Christian atmosphere within the classroom and campus; Conduct a short devotional and have prayer at the beginning of each class
- Develop and submit weekly lesson plans to the principal or vice principal as required; Lesson plans are to include Objectives, Procedures, and Evaluation for each learning style; Must also demonstrate evidence of lesson/unit planning and preparation that honors individual diversity and builds upon prior knowledge
- Develop long-term yearly/semesterly/quarterly plans and goals for each subject
- Select resources to support the subject matter that is academically and developmentally appropriate for diverse abilities and interests
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction to students, employ a variety of teaching techniques and activities appropriate to student learning styles and subject matter, stimulate critical and creative thinking, and monitor student understanding
- Effectively integrate technology into the classroom
- Use a variety of evaluation techniques to provide feedback and communicate progress, providing opportunities for students to learn from mistakes as well as successes
- Utilize appropriate classroom management routines that facilitate student engagement and continuity
- Provide for individual differences through diagnostic and prescriptive teaching
- Communicate challenging expectations that encompass critical and creative thinking as well as problem-solving skills
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports and is conducive to student learning, allowing sufficient time for academic activities
- Utilize effective behavior management techniques which promote self-discipline
- Systematically involve all students in the instructional process and encourage intellectual risk taking
- Maintain accurate and organized student class records (attendance, grades, etc.) on the school's Student Information System (SIS) in compliance with administration
- Provide motivating, timely and constructive feedback to students and parents every week on the SIS
- Communicate with parents regularly, conducting parent/teacher conferences when necessary, keeping them well-informed
- Be willing to grow professionally
