Full Stack Developer

SOFWERX was established under a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) between the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and DEFENSEWERX (DWX) D.B.A. SOFWERX (SWX).

SOFWERX is a platform designed and operated to increase collaboration and innovation, as well as explore, experiment, and assess promising technology for USSOCOM. Its growing eco-system includes both traditional and non-traditional problem solvers with a focus on new, novel and provocative capabilities.

JOB SUMMARY:

Serve as the Full Stack Developer for SOFWERX in Tampa, Florida. The Full Stack Developer is responsible for the development and maintenance of the customer facing web application platforms. Collaborate with SOFWERX staff on the user experiences and capabilities of the website. Consult with government/industry partners, and SWX visitors to provide recommendations and best practices regarding website development. Generate level of effort estimates on new features and changes. Collaborate with the Software Developer on web application features, technologies, and processes. Report to the SOFWERX Software Developer and Manager in Tampa Florida.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Identify, assess, and utilize open source, commercial, academic, and governmental software and software architectures to meet stakeholder needs.


• Maintenance and continuous development & deployment on SWX Websites, services and interfaces.


• Implement software development processes, procedures and techniques that effectively support rapid, iterative, and collaborative system evolution.


• Ensuring proper SEO and accessibility persists on the site.


• Design and develop new product features like APIs, manipulate database queries, perform tests, troubleshoot website-related issues.


• Monitor and evaluate the progress of website development changes and keep the SOFWERX Software Developer informed of timelines, progress, and resources required.


• Effectively communicate with SOFWERX staff, customers, academia, industry partners, community volunteers, high ranking officials, and the public.


• Collaborate with and provide advice SWX leadership, Marketing and Events teams, as well as USSOCOM on web application changes and upgrades.


• Respond to production issues and deployment requests in a timely fashion.


• Submit reports, support requests, and recommendations to SOFWERX senior staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 4+ years of professional front end/full stack software development experience.


• BS in computer science / engineering or equivalent years of professional experience.


• Experience using modern CSS frameworks and libraries such as Tailwind CSS and Bootstrap.


• Experience in one or more relevant front-end frameworks (Next,js, React.js).


• Experience creating REST and/or GraphQL APIs.


• Experience with responsive web design and targeting mobile platforms.


• Experience using version control systems such as Git and GitLab.


• Experience working with, developing, and deploying CMS platforms.


• Familiarity with SEO best practices and accessibility standards for modern web applications.


• Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, RDS, and Amplify.


• Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD, automated test and build. 
  

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of War (DoW) Security Clearance.


• Database knowledge is a plus.
