PAY RATE: $20.40/hr. - $23.63/hr.

POSITION PURPOSE:

Travel training program development, maintenance, and presentation to current and potential transit customers. Offers transportation instruction for persons with and without disabilities who are attempting to achieve travel independence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts onboard travel instruction sessions for individuals who are unfamiliar with public transit including persons with disabilities.
  • Develops travel itineraries for fixed route service, including origin and destination determination.
  • Maintains customer travel records as required including customer's progress in response to training, customer's knowledge of routes, transfers, and schedules.
  • Conducts school, agency and group public transportation informational presentations.
  • Develops and delivers group training presentations to students, seniors, and people with disabilities to further transit education programs.
  • Provides assistance to determine eligibility certification relative to service area and condition of bus stops assessment for paratransit eligible customers.
  • Responds to customer telephone inquiries about general HART service delivery and prepares related correspondence.
  • Creates and maintains confidential client information files.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and external group meetings.
  • Keeps abreast of industry trends and developments related to ADA and Paratransit program services.
  • Promotes travel-training programs (marketing) through outreach sessions and presentations.
  • Prepares presentations on public transit service and travel training program.
  • Provide group travel training (field trip) sessions for disabled and senior community groups to introduce the convenience, accessibility, and affordability of public transit.
  • Operates HART ID card equipment (if Marketing Department unavailable).

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's Degree preferred or two (2) years of experience in transit, public service or teaching.

Machines, Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, as well as a computer for both data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must be able to obtain a valid Florida driver's license within 10 days of hire.

  • Bi-lingual (English / Spanish) abilities, preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of local public transit system and organizational structure.
  • Knowledge of route scheduling.
  • Knowledge of Trip Plan lanyard cards.
  • Knowledge of geographical area of city and county; HART schedules and routes.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Ability to hear, see, speak, and perceive color, depth and texture.
  • Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to rude or irate members of the public; may occasionally be exposed to individuals with known violent backgrounds, extreme heat, fumes, or loud noises.
  • May require split shift working hours.
  • Job duties are performed primarily in outdoor environment.
  • Ability to work outdoor, walk long distances and travel on local bus routes in any weather condition.
