A 7th Grade Science and Social Studies Teacher in a Tennessee public school district is a dual-endorsement or team-teaching instructional position. This role focuses on guiding early adolescents through inquiry-based learning in world history and life science.
Job Summary
The 7th Grade Teacher provides high-quality, standards-based instruction in Life Science and World History. The educator creates a supportive classroom environment that fosters critical thinking, scientific inquiry, literacy, and historical analysis. The position reports directly to the School Principal.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
1. Curriculum & Instruction
- TN State Standards : Deliver rigorous daily lessons aligned exactly to the Tennessee 7th Grade Science Standards (focusing on cells, genetics, ecosystems, and earth/human activity) and Social Studies Standards (focusing on World History and Geography)
- Inquiry-Based Learning : Implement hands-on laboratory experiences, scientific method modeling, and primary source document analysis.
- Literacy Integration : Teach domain-specific vocabulary and technical reading strategies to help students decode complex historical texts and scientific data.
- Technology Use : Integrate instructional technology, digital mapping tools, and virtual lab simulations into daily instruction.
2. Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction
- TCAP Preparation : Prepare students for state-mandated testing ( TCAP ) by embedding state-aligned question styles into regular assessments.
- Formative & Summative Evaluation : Design diverse assessments, including lab reports, historical essays, and project-based rubrics.
- Data Teams : Participate in professional learning communities ( PLCs ) to analyze student data, identify learning gaps, and adjust instructional pacing.
3. Classroom Management & Student Support
- Alignment : Maintain high instructional standards evaluated under the Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM) rubric.
- Differentiated Learning : Modify lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners, including execution of IEP, 504, and RTI² (Response to Instruction and Intervention) documentation.
- Middle School Environment : Cultivate a structured, positive, and culturally responsive classroom culture tailored to early adolescent developmental needs.
4. Professional Responsibilities
- Parent Communication : Maintain consistent contact with families regarding student academic progress and behavioral growth.
- Collaborative Teams : Work closely with 7th-grade team teachers, exceptional education staff, and literacy coaches.
- Licensure Maintenance : Complete required Professional Development Points (PDPs) to keep Tennessee teaching credentials current.
5. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Education : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Middle School Education, Science, History, or a related field.
- Licensure : Must hold or be eligible for a valid Tennessee Educator License with appropriate endorsements.
6. Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Ability to safely manage, set up, and clean up middle school science laboratory chemicals and equipment.
- Standing, walking, and moving around the classroom for extended periods.
