POSITION OVERVIEW
Our client is seeking a Business Development Director to lead growth initiatives across both government and commercial markets. This individual will play a key role in shaping sales strategy, building and developing a high-performing team, and securing complex, long-cycle opportunities. The position reports directly to the COO and includes leadership responsibility for a team of sales professionals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify and secure new business opportunities across a range of industries and regions
- Build, coach, and lead a sales team
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with government contractors and commercial decision-makers
- Monitor industry developments, market dynamics, and competitor activity to guide business strategy and maintain a competitive edge
- Lead and support capture efforts, win strategies, technical solution development, and partnerships
- Drive and implement comprehensive business development strategies across government and commercial markets, with an approximate 70/30 market split
- Personally close high-value opportunities while mentoring team members through their sales cycles
- Manage complex, multi-year contract negotiations
- Partner with technical teams to deliver product demonstrations
- Expand revenue opportunities within the commercial sector
Requirements
- Strong commercial sales background with demonstrated success closing complex B2B and B2G opportunities
- Proven experience building and leading high-performing sales teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on sales execution
- Experience navigating long sales cycles and multi-year contract negotiations
- CRM proficiency, including experience with platforms such as HubSpot to manage sales activity, metrics, and forecasting
- Eligibility to obtain Security Clearance
- 5-10 years of experience in business development and sales leadership, ideally within commercial tech or technology solutions, with a proven record of exceeding targets and driving revenue growth
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven government contracting experience with established relationships in the federal and military landscape
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed, up to 25%
