Instructional Coach – Entrepreneurship
General Job Description Our model aspires to make learning fun and engaging, and to grow the potential of our Teaching Fellows, staff, and students in a supportive environment. Instructional Coaches (ICs) are experienced and successful professional educators who provide content specific support for BTM Teaching Fellows throughout the summer, and engage fully in the BTM community. ICs dictate the level of fidelity, rigor and consistency during BTM’s summer program through their interactions with Teaching Fellows and staff. Exemplary ICs effectively communicate content specifics to Fellows, guide them through effective planning and execution, and hold both Fellows and students to the highest standards. The Entrepreneurship IC will adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students, provide training to Fellows, and follow up with them throughout the summer to ensure fidelity to programming. The IC will also support the execution of at least one business plan challenge.
Specific Instructional Coach Duties
Pre-summer:
- Complete training session (May, TBD)
- Consult with BTM staff regarding 9th-grade academic content in your specific content area
- Meet with program staff to plan orientation workshops
Teaching Fellow Orientation:
- Help facilitate workshops on topics such as classroom management, lesson planning, creating classroom culture, etc.
- Participate fully in all orientation workshops
- Work with Teaching Fellows to design six-week advisory unit plans and lesson plans
Six-Week Summer Program:
- Guide Teaching Fellows through developing lesson plans, creating assessments and locating appropriate teaching resources
- Provide Teaching Fellows with support and regular feedback as they design lesson plans
- Observe each Teaching Fellow in your department at least once weekly, followed by a debriefing session in which Fellows receive concrete feedback based on Breakthrough’s Teaching Fellow Excellence Rubric
- Communicate regularly with Site Director to discuss Teaching Fellow progress
- Plan and lead departmental meetings
- Lead at least one large group, mid-summer professional development session
- Engage fully in the BTM community; sharing your passion for teaching, learning, and leading
- Supporting individual student success with goal setting and documentation
- Supervise and guide the Teaching Assistants who work with the Teaching Fellows
Evaluation Week:
- Submit a final evaluation, as well as growth letters for each Teaching Fellow
- Evaluate the overall summer program
- Supervise Teaching Fellows as they compile their summer portfolios and evaluate the final products
- Read and edit student evaluations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Outstanding track record as a professional classroom teacher
- Superior presentation, writing and organizational skills
- High degree of flexibility; ability to multitask between projects
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Ability to hold others to high standards, while also offering support and maintaining positive relationships
- Ability to deliver positive, constructive, and honest feedback; both written and verbal
- Experience with curriculum development and implementation
- Outstanding knowledge of subject matter and broad knowledge of available resources
- Comfort and confidence in working with children and adults
- Creativity, energy, and commitment to excellence
- Commitment to, and passion for, teaching students from diverse backgrounds
- Prior experience with Breakthrough is a plus
- Familiarity with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools, or Palm Beach County Public Schools or State of Florida Teaching Certificate or equivalentis highly desirable
- Experience in an academically rigorous college-preparatory institution is highly desirable
Schedule and Compensation
Dates and Times:
Prior to Summer Program: A few hours a week in May, as needed
Required Instructional Coach Training: May 10 and 17, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Start Date: June 7, 2025
Teaching Fellow Orientation: June 7- June 13, 2025, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Summer Program: June 16 -July 25, 2025, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Evaluation Week: July 28–August 1, 2025, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Compensation:
Compensation – $4,500 stipend (paid over three pay periods)
