Industrial Mechanic
Job Description
This role is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Technician supports mold changeovers, maintains equipment reliability, and minimizes downtime to ensure continuous production operations during overnight shifts. The position requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with production and maintenance teams.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues across production areas to maintain safe and reliable operations.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery and auxiliary equipment to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and utility systems in accordance with technical manuals and schematics.
- Clean and maintain filters, electrical panels, tools, and work areas to support safe, efficient, and organized maintenance activities.
- Use diagnostic tools and interpret technical documentation to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective solutions.
- Repair electrical systems on production equipment, including components related to injection molding, blow molding, and extrusion processes.
- Inspect and maintain chilled water systems and compressed air systems to ensure proper operation and support production requirements.
- Support the operation, maintenance, and optimization of production and auxiliary equipment, including plastics injection and blow mold machines.
- Disassemble and reassemble machinery for repair, inspection, and preventive maintenance, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
- Assist with the installation, modification, and upgrade of equipment and systems to improve reliability and performance.
- Monitor and maintain lubrication programs for machinery to extend equipment life and reduce mechanical wear.
- Identify, communicate, and document maintenance needs to ensure optimal equipment performance and continuous improvement.
- Report unplanned or emergency maintenance needs promptly and support timely resolution to restore production.
- Record all repairs, adjustments, and modifications in the maintenance management system, maintaining accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and safety programs, contributing ideas to enhance reliability, efficiency, and workplace safety.
- Follow all safety, hygiene, SQF, GMP, and company policies and procedures while performing maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to coordinate work, minimize disruption, and support shared goals.
- Escalate complex technical issues to the supervisor or specialized support when needed, following established procedures.
- Perform additional maintenance and support duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Technical knowledge of injection molding and blow molding equipment, including plastics injection and blow mold machines.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics, mechanical systems, electronics, compressors, and refrigeration systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical and mechanical systems using diagnostic tools and technical schematics.
- Familiarity with chilled water systems and compressed air systems in an industrial setting.
- Knowledge of industrial tools, machinery, and maintenance best practices.
- Understanding of SQF and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production environment.
- Strong verbal communication skills in Spanish to coordinate effectively with internal teams.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during overnight shifts while following established procedures.
- Capability to work under pressure in a production environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with production and maintenance teams.

Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced, climate-controlled manufacturing facility that runs continuous production. The role primarily supports third shift operations, requiring availability and flexibility to work overnight hours to meet production needs. Work is hands-on and involves regular interaction with production and maintenance teams, following established procedures and supervisory direction. The environment includes exposure to industrial machinery such as injection molding, blow molding, extrusion equipment, compressors, and refrigeration systems, as well as chilled water and compressed air systems. Maintenance work typically takes place on the production floor and in equipment rooms, using a variety of industrial tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance management systems. The position requires strict adherence to safety, hygiene, SQF, and GMP standards, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness of tools, work areas, and equipment. While the primary focus is on overnight operations, the facility also operates a climate-controlled first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., reflecting a structured and well-organized production schedule.
