Test and Commissioning Engineer

Alstom
Tampa, FL

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time onsite Test and Commissioning Engineer in Tampa, FL, US we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your extensive engineering expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside dedicated and collaborative teammates.

You'll lead the testing and commissioning activities for railway signaling subsystems, ensuring compliance with standards, regulations, and customer requirements. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (Engineering, Validation & Verification, and Project Management), develop and execute test procedures, provide technical leadership to resolve complex issues, and much more.

You'll specifically take care of organizing and executing Test and Commissioning (T&C) activities, but also ensuring safety and compliance across all testing phases.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Organizing T&C activities, including planning, access, resource allocation, and documentation.

  • Checking compliance of signaling systems against system specification documents and contractual requirements.

  • Developing T&C procedures for subsystems based on defined specifications to meet contractual requirements.

  • Leading deep troubleshooting of wayside/railway systems and equipment to identify and resolve root causes of failures and integration issues.

  • Interfacing with Engineering and V&V subsystem leaders to optimize site tests and resource allocation.

  • Providing technical leadership to teams for tools, procedures, and problem resolution.

  • Leading or participating in technical discussions with the customer while representing and protecting the company’s interests.

  • Reporting regularly to the Project T&C Manager on progress, issues, and anomalies arising during site testing.

  • Ensuring all design-related issues are correctly reported in the appropriate tools, including defect descriptions and test context.

  • Guaranteeing that all tests are conducted with a strong emphasis on safety.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Degree in engineering technology or equivalent combined experience & technical education (electronics/electrical/computer/railway).

  • Experience or understanding of Installation, Tests & Commissioning (T&C) activities for signaling projects.

  • Knowledge of Alstom products and railway signaling systems.

  • Familiarity with test procedures, troubleshooting, and compliance standards.

  • A valid driver's license with a clean record.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and prioritization skills.

  • Proactive mindset with attention to detail.

  • Flexibility and mobility, with availability to work at night, during weekends, and on public holidays.

  • Strong relationship and reporting skills with management and customers.

  • A team player with a rigorous and safety-focused approach.

Things you’ll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines.

  • Work with cutting-edge railway signaling systems, ensuring safety and efficiency in transportation.

  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues.

  • Contribute to innovative projects.

  • Utilise our inclusive and innovative working environment, where adaptability, resilience, and continuous learning are highly valued.

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries.

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning.

  • Progress towards becoming a trusted technical leader in Test and Commissioning, with opportunities to develop expertise and grow your career within a global organization.

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension).

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
