POSITION SUMMARY :

Responsible for the assessment and the insertion of PICC lines for patients requiring an intravenous access device. Responsibility also includes coordinating the process of PICC line placements, communication with primary care nurses and providing education for care and maintenance of vascular access devices. The PICC line nurse directs the PICC line process and team members, establishing a positive and professional rapport with other departments and staff, focusing on the provision of individualized quality patient care consistent with organizational standards and goals. The RN directs care according to established standards of safety, risk management, QI, Infection Control, with the goal being to discharge the patient with an optimum level of care provided.

CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and the hospital. Works with supervisor/manager and other members of section or department to promote a harmonious work environment. Ensures that all contacts with patients, the public, physicians and other hospital personnel are carried out in a friendly, courteous, helpful and considerate manner. Answers telephones in a prompt and courteous manner. Displays concern and provides assistance or explains procedures as appropriate to callers or in face-to-face situations. Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Works with customers to identify problem areas and recommend solutions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (including required licenses/certifications, education and job knowledge/experience):

  • Current FL RN License
  • PICC Certification
  • Current BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification preferred
  • Two (2) years experience in placing venous access devices. Experience placing PICC lines preferred
  • Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • Ability to communicate in English
