5. Position Summary
The Supervisor II, Laboratory (Hematology Lab) is responsible for supervision over multiple laboratory functions including oversight of hematology testing for the core lab, monitoring workflow from sample processing through departmental workflow to results reporting, and providing day-to-day guidance on teammate performance. This position evaluates and monitors compliance with service guarantees and specimen quality requirements while ensuring adherence to corporate standard policies and procedures related to job performance, customer interactions, teammate relations, and information confidentiality. As a licensed technical supervisor, this position may work a designated shift (day, evening, or night) and reports to the Manager, Laboratory.
6. Must-Haves
- Minimum 6-8 years of experience as a Medical Technologist or in a supervisory laboratory role
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, biological sciences, or related field
- Florida Supervisor's License in Hematology
- Professional laboratory certification from an accredited certifying agency (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent)
7. Primary Functions
Leadership and Direction:
- Provides overall direction, communication, and oversight to team members regarding departmental workflow and task assignments
- Ensures teammate adherence to procedures and quality assurance requirements
- Participates in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures
- Serves as a resource for team training and competency program development
- Monitors performance against established targets, goals, and metrics
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement within the department and across laboratory business lanes
Team Management:
- Facilitates resolution of organizational obstacles encountered by the team
- Communicates and implements (Confidential Client) employment policies, procedures, awards, and advancement opportunities
- Fosters a positive work environment and culture
- Assists in team member development through PDRs, coaching, mentoring, and training programs
- Manages team employment activities including hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions
- Maintains compliant records of performance evaluations and personnel files per (Confidential Client) policy and applicable laws
- Oversees timecard review, time off approvals, and compensation processing
- Performs competency evaluations and periodic performance reviews as required
Workflow Management:
- Monitors laboratory workflow and delegates responsibilities effectively to team members
- Establishes staffing plans to promote optimal use of all team members
- Resolves operational and quality issues related to workload
- Ensures coverage during team member absences
- Covers work benches as operational needs require
Quality and Compliance:
- Maintains an active role in the laboratory's quality improvement program including incident reporting and CAP surveys
- Monitors turnaround time and service guarantee compliance
- Ensures compliance with state requirements and established laboratory outcome standards
- Collaborates with other leaders to develop section-specific Standard Operating Procedures
- Implements training programs ensuring regulatory and accrediting body compliance
- Maintains commitment to safety policies and protocols
