Job Opportunity: Staff Physician - Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics

The Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Physician. The Staff Physician provides medical care to patients based on proper documentation in the medical record as outlined by staff rules and regulations. The incumbent receives patient assignments based on their educational discipline, expertise, or experience.

Job Functions:

• Develops and implements comprehensive treatment plans addressing biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors.
• Performs respectful physical assessments of patients.
• Prescribes medical treatments and clinical drugs.
• Gathers essential information through record reviews and interviews.
• Reports to the responsible physician and complies with policy co-sig.
• Reports hazardous conditions, equipment issues, and supply inadequacies.
• Reports Quality Assurance incidents, including medication errors, per department guidelines.
• Engages in continuing education to enhance knowledge and skills.
• Makes informed clinical decisions based on patient data, scientific evidence, and judgment.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information in accordance with regulations.
• Provides outpatient clinical care at multiple satellite locations in Dade and Broward County.
• Collaborates with APPs and support staff.
• Examines patients, reviews medical histories, and orders/interprets diagnostic tests.
• Counsels patients on health, hygiene, and preventive care.
• Makes referrals to specialists as needed.
• Participates in training and in-service programs.
• Obtains and maintains hospital practice privileges.
• Participates in a 24-hour coverage schedule, including after-hours and hospital coverage.
• Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
• Represents our UH health facilities in the community and with professionals.
• Ensures compliance with contractual, policy, and procedural standards.
• Accurately documents all services in patient records.
• Maintains an organized, clean, and confidential work environment.
• Prepares reports and handles correspondence related to work duties.
• Supports staff with project-based work.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
• Adheres to university policies and safeguards assets.

Core Qualifications:

Education/Certification/Licensing:

• M.D. in a relevant field
• Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
• Board Certified or eligible in Geriatrics (certification within 2 years of hire)

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Organizational and prioritization skills under pressure
• Discretion in handling confidential information
• Availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed
