Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

Fincantieri Marine Repair is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is critical to supporting cost control and project accounting functions for ship repair and maintenance operations. The ideal candidate will bring experience in construction, manufacturing, or government contracting environments, with strong analytical skills and a passion for operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform project cost accounting and job cost analysis to support accurate financial reporting and forecasting

• Monitor project budgets, actual costs, and cost-to-complete, working closely with Project Managers and Operations

• Assist in developing and maintaining cost tracking tools for labor, material, subcontractor, and overhead expenses

• Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain accuracy of project-related financial data

• Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, and adjustments

• Review and analyze project billing, WIP reports, and revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS

• Support internal and external audits by providing schedules, explanations, and documentation

• Partner with procurement and operations teams to improve cost efficiency and internal controls

• Maintain compliance with internal financial policies and government contracting requirements

• Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

• 2–4 years of accounting experience; experience in project accounting, construction, maritime, or government contracting preferred

• Solid understanding of cost accounting principles and financial reporting

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, Sage, or equivalent)

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

• Knowledge of FAR, DFARS, or CAS regulations a plus

$70,000- $85,000 annually
