Security Road Captain
The Security Road Captain at SMI plays a critical leadership role in executing and overseeing secure overnight movements of personnel, assets, or vehicles. This position ensures that all road operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company protocols and mission expectations. As a field-based leader, the Road Captain is responsible for coordinating real-time convoy operations, enforcing safety and security measures, maintaining communication among teams, and representing SMI’s standards of discipline and professionalism during all active shifts. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the coordination of overnight road security movements.
- Serve as the primary in-field decision-maker during convoy deployments.
- Ensure all assigned personnel are following designated routes, timing, and safety procedures.
- Enforce strict convoy formation, spacing, and radio discipline throughout all movements.
- Maintain continuous radio communication with Road Major, dispatch, & others during shifts.
- Supervise and provide on-the-road guidance to team drivers and support security personnel.
- Report incidents, delays, or route changes to the Jr. Operations Manager promptly.
- Identify and assess potential threats, hazards, or unusual activity during road operations.
- Make informed, immediate decisions to safeguard staff and assets in the field.
- Ensure all vehicles are inspected prior to deployment & meet operational readiness standards.
- Promote a culture of vigilance, professionalism, and compliance with SMI’s safety protocols.
- Complete end-of-shift reports, incident logs, & convoy documentation accurately & thoroughly.
- Participate in post-operation debriefs with management.
- Provide input for operational improvements and contribute to team briefings and evaluations.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in security, transportation coordination, or road operations.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a security or logistics setting.
- Ability to work full-time overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
- Strong understanding of convoy management, defensive driving, and incident response.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in law enforcement, military, or private security.
- Certifications in first aid, defensive driving, or tactical vehicle operations.
- Familiarity with GPS tracking, radio communications, and emergency protocols.
- Bilingual in both English and Spanish.

- Requires prolonged periods of driving, sitting, and remaining alert during the night shift.
