What you'll do:

As a Regional Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager for QXO (LBM), you will be a field-based safety leader responsible for driving proactive risk reduction, regulatory compliance, and cultural transformation across assigned branch and transportation operations. Reporting to the Director of EHS, this role is critical to executing QXO’s EHS Strategic Vision, transitioning the organization from incident-driven compliance to a system-based, learning-focused, and resilient safety culture.

You will partner closely with operations leadership, transportation teams, and centralized EHS resources to anticipate risk, strengthen systems, and empower frontline decision-making, with a primary focus on preventing Potential Serious Incidents and Fatalities (pSIFs) and Significant Incidents and Fatalities (SIFs).

Strategic Execution & Safety Leadership

  • Execute QXO’s EHS Strategy at the regional level, aligning branch activities with enterprise priorities across Programs & Systems Excellence, People & Culture, Risk Reduction, and Physical Security.
  • Serve as a visible safety leader who reinforces the principle that safety is a business driver, not a compliance checkbox.
  • Translate corporate strategy into practical, field-level actions that improve risk visibility, decision quality, and operational resilience.

Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) Integration

  • Apply HOP principles in investigations, learning teams, coaching, and leadership interactions:
    • Error is normal
    • Learning is vital
    • Context matters
    • Response matters
    • Leadership enables
  • Lead learning-based reviews for pSIFs, SIFs, and high-potential near misses, focusing on system improvements rather than individual blame.
  • Coach site leaders on Just Culture expectations and effective responses to incidents and unsafe conditions.

Risk Identification & Proactive Risk Reduction

  • Drive structured hazard identification through job hazard analyses, branch assessments, and near-miss reporting, emphasizing severity potential over injury outcomes.
  • Support and maintain the QXO Risk Register, ensuring high-risk exposures are identified, prioritized, and mitigated.
  • Partner with operations to design and improve processes, layouts, equipment, and workflows that reduce exposure to serious injury and fatality risk.

Regulatory Compliance & Technical Expertise

  • Maintain expert knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations applicable to warehousing, fleet, and delivery operations.
  • Serve as the regional point of contact for regulatory inspections, audits, and inquiries, ensuring consistent and professional engagement.
  • Ensure effective management of:
    • OSHA recordkeeping (300, 300A, 301)
    • DOT compliance, including driver qualification files, hours-of-service, drug and alcohol testing, and vehicle inspections
    • Hazardous materials handling, transport, training, and incident response
  • Balance regulatory compliance with risk-based decision-making, avoiding overreliance on lagging indicators alone.

Data, Systems & Leading Indicators

  • Manage and leverage digital EHS systems to improve reporting accuracy, visibility, and accountability.
  • Shift field leadership focus from lagging metrics (e.g., TRIR) to leading indicators, including:
    • pSIF/SIF rates
    • Safety Index Score
    • Branch and jobsite assessment quality
    • Action closure effectiveness
    • DOT compliance performance
  • Analyze trends and present clear, actionable insights to regional and corporate leadership.

Training, Coaching & Culture

  • Develop and deliver targeted training that supports hazard recognition, defensive driving, emergency response, and safe work design.
  • Coach managers and supervisors to:
    • Reinforce proactive reporting
    • Model desired safety behaviors
    • Integrate safety considerations into daily operational decisions
  • Promote psychological safety and employee engagement through consistent communication, safety meetings, and learning feedback loops.

Emergency Preparedness & Continuity

  • Support development and execution of emergency response and business continuity plans across assigned locations.
  • Participate in incident response, recovery, and post-event learning to ensure organizational resilience and continuous improvement.

Collaboration & Influence

  • Partner with regional operations, fleet leadership, HR, and centralized EHS teams to align on risk mitigation and performance improvement.
  • Support workers’ compensation and claims management through proactive case reviews and return-to-work coordination.
  • Represent QXO professionally with regulators, insurers, and external stakeholders.
What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in multi-site distribution, warehousing, transportation, or construction environments.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing system-based safety programs beyond basic compliance.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA requirements.
  • Experience with incident investigations, risk assessments, and leading-indicator-based performance management.
  • Ability to influence leaders at all levels using data, coaching, and practical solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
