Barista
Barista (Opening Team)
Location: St. Petersburg, FL
Type: Part Time / Full Time
Compensation: $11/hour + tips
Welcome to St. Pete Athletic.
We’re not just launching a club—we’re building a community, a standard, and a vibe. Think urban country club. St. Pete Athletic is where sport, hospitality, and social energy collide. With 14 pickleball courts, 2 padel courts, dedicated table tennis spaces, a full-service restaurant and bar, and amenities ranging from coworking to wellness to a garden oasis—it’s a place to play, connect, and belong.
But our real secret? Hospitality. The kind you feel, not just see. We believe in creating moments that surprise and delight. And we’re looking for Baristas who live and breathe that philosophy.
The Opportunity
As a Barista at St. Pete Athletic, you create more than coffee—you craft experiences. With technical expertise, refined hospitality, and a passion for quality ingredients, you’ll prepare elevated coffee, tea, and wellness beverages that energize and delight.
Whether serving courtside, in the café, or at private events, you’ll balance precision and warmth to ensure every member’s experience reflects the club’s luxury standards. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on attention to detail, loves connecting with people, and finds joy in creating memorable daily rituals for guests.
Key Responsibilities
Luxury Guest Engagement
- Welcome members and guests with warmth, genuine eye contact, and personalized attention.
- Learn and recall guest names, preferences, and rituals to deliver highly tailored service.
- Anticipate needs—offering refills, enhancements, pairings, or alternatives before being asked.
- Create “surprise-and-delight” moments and personalized touches.
- Resolve concerns with empathy and urgency, escalating when needed to maintain loyalty.
Craft & Beverage Expertise
- Prepare espresso-based drinks, cold brews, matchas, teas, lattes, and wellness beverages with precision and consistency.
- Demonstrate advanced barista techniques to ensure luxury-level presentation and taste.
- Exhibit deep knowledge of bean origins, roast profiles, seasonal offerings, and wellness trends.
- Guide guest choices with confidence, offering tailored recommendations based on taste and lifestyle.
- Adapt seamlessly between high-volume rushes and slower, personalized service moments.
Operational Readiness
- Maintain coffee bar cleanliness, sanitation, and organization; calibrate grinders and rotate stock for freshness.
- Monitor and restock inventory of beans, teas, milk alternatives, and supplies, reporting needs to management.
- Support event beverage service, including batching, tray-passing, setup, and breakdown.
- Perform opening and closing duties including restocking, side work, and reporting discrepancies.
Sales & Performance
- Promote and upsell retail items such as premium beans, branded mugs, and brewing accessories.
- Contribute to revenue goals by achieving high guest satisfaction and average transaction values.
- Collaborate with culinary and service teams on pairing menus and wellness-focused activations.
Collaboration & Training
- Communicate effectively with baristas, culinary, and guest services teams for seamless service.
- Use Square and Podplay systems for efficient ordering, personalization, and guest tracking.
- Mentor and support new team members to ensure consistency in drinks and service standards.
- Attend pre-shift briefings to review specials, VIP guests, and event priorities.
Standards & Safety
- Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation protocols; report equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Maintain a polished uniform, impeccable grooming, and approachable posture throughout shifts.
- Stay calm and professional during peak service and high-pressure moments.
- Follow emergency protocols and assist with guest safety as needed.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
Who You Are
- You’re passionate about coffee, tea, and wellness beverages as a craft.
- You’re approachable, attentive, and guest-focused.
- You thrive in fast-paced environments but deliver each beverage with care.
- You love creating meaningful daily rituals for members and guests.
- You see hospitality as a lifestyle, not just a job.
Our Promise to You
At St. Pete Athletic, we want this to be one of the best jobs you’ve ever had. That means:
- A supportive team culture built on kindness, excellence, and joy.
- Opportunities to learn across multiple areas of hospitality.
- The chance to be part of a community that values connection as much as service.
Compensation & Benefits
- $11/hour + tips.
- Opportunity to enroll in company health insurance plans.
- Flexible scheduling (part-time or full-time).
- Opportunities for advancement in an opening club.
- Employee discount for club membership (includes F&B and retail preferred pricing).
Sound Like You? Let’s Talk.
If you’re ready to join the opening team that’s setting a new bar for hospitality in Tampa Bay, we’d love to meet you.
