  • Non-Exempt Hourly ($31.19/hr); 84 Hours per pay period; Annual Salary of approx. $68,118.96;
  • 12 Paid Holidays per year; 130+ hours of accrued leave per year; $100 per month cell phone stipend;
  • Holidays worked at straight time; Holidays WORKED paid at PLUS time and a half; 5PM - 7AM shift diff. of $1.50/hour
  • Florida Retirement System; Deferred Comp. Plan with ER match of up to 2% of EE base pay

This position serves the public in the enforcement of laws and ordinances for the protection of life and property. This type of work requires a knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures used in law enforcement such as restoring and maintaining order, conducting preliminary investigations, community policing efforts and the apprehension of criminals. On-the-job interactions require skills in understanding human behavior and the factors which influence behavior and are critical in adversarial and confrontational situations. Police Officers are confronted with various situations that require quick assessment and sound judgment for resolution. Work is performed in the field in an uncontrolled environment where risks and hazards are substantial, generally unknown, and unpredictable.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates personal and professional commitment to JAA by implementing law enforcement and investigation techniques that enhance local, state, and federal partnerships.
  • Enforces JAA regulations, federal, state, and local laws and works with other law enforcement agencies in the coordination of aviationsecurity related issues.
  • Ensures compliance with TSA and FAA federally mandated security directives.
  • Apprehends and arrests suspects, completes arrest forms and advises of applicable rights.
  • Investigates suspicious activities and enforces laws and ordinances.
  • Patrols assigned area to enforce traffic and other vehicular related regulations by issuing citations, warnings, and apprehending violators on JAA premises.
  • Responds to calls and investigates problems, disturbances, traffic accidents, crimes, emergencies, and other incidents, and prepares related reports.
  • Provides investigation service to tenants, customers, and the public.
  • Interview people, prepares reports and makes disposition or referral as appropriate.
  • Watches for and investigates wanted and missing persons, stolen cars, and property.
  • Processes crime scenes for evidence, photographs crime scenes, searches for and lifts fingerprints, and prepares evidence to be presented in court.
  • Prepares and preserves evidence in accordance with directives to maintain chain of custody.
  • Investigates and checks pawn shops and stores for stolen articles.
  • Operates electronic data communications equipment and 2-way radio.
  • Guards suspects and provides related security services.
  • Transports/escorts individuals as appropriate.
  • Testifies in court as required.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of law enforcement techniques, methods, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and General Orders.
  • Knowledge of C.O.P.S. (Community Oriented Policing Strategies).
  • Knowledge of Florida statutes, constitutional law, municipal ordinances, and applicable court decisions.
  • Knowledge of CFR Part 139, CFR 1542, Airport Security Plan (ASP), and Airport Emergency Plan (AEP).
  • Skill in the safe operation of automobiles, firearms, and other law enforcement equipment.
  • Ability to operate police vehicle equipped with mobile radio and other electronic data communications devices, firearms, restraining devices and related law enforcement equipment.
  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule with non-traditional shift rotations, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to understand and apply laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Ability to use and care for standard law enforcement equipment, such as firearms, primary and secondary weapons, and gun belts.
  • Ability to prepare accurate, clear, concise, and comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to firmly, courteously, and tactfully handle situations, with respect for the rights of others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively.
  • Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Ability to work long hours and withstand physical strains of police work.
  • Ability to observe, understand and recall facts and information objectively.
  • Ability to write legibly.Ability to pursue, apprehend and restrain persons.
  • Ability to apply personal defense techniques.
  • Ability to learn and follow prescribed routines.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in adversarial/confrontational situations.
  • Ability to administer basic first aid and CPR.

Required Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or its equivalent

Preferred Education & Experience

  • 4 years of law enforcement experience.
  • Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field
  • Aviation law enforcement experience

Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be certified as a Florida Law Enforcement Officer by the FDLE Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (F.S. 943.1395).
  • Must be able to pass a Physical Abilities Test.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E drivers license at the time of employment.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to wear equipment belt weighing approximately 15-20 pounds for continuous duty periods of at least 8 to 12 hours.
  • Must have the strength and dexterity to perform defensive tactics and successfully complete firearms training.
  • Must be able to operate and use law enforcement tools and equipment, including but not limited to weapons, handcuffs, vehicles, computers, and other technological devices.
  • Required to work in varying environmental conditions which may involve exposure to dust, fumes, noise, heat, cold, heights, glare, body fluids and physical confrontations.
