Position Overview
The CAD Technician creates high quality as-built/record drawing packages, as part of the post-construction regulatory acceptance process, for the utilities and infrastructure that McAdams designs and permits.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform simple calculations within AutoCAD and draw/edit objects, linework, and text
- Import surveyed points into CAD drawings and convert/process outside Engineering files to Company CAD standards
- Read, interpret and incorporate field notes for updating of CAD files
- Set up and/or revise sheet drawings from redline markups
- Work with plan and profile sheets, roadway cross-sections, utility plans, standard detail and cover sheets, grading and storm drainage plans
- Incorporate ongoing/updated as-built requirements to plan sets submittals
- Set up and maintain standard folder structure and file naming conventions
- Edit and label structures/appurtenances, pipe networks and profile views (locations, elevations, labels, etc.)
- Communicate in a clear and professional way with Field Crews, Engineers, Construction Observers,
- Municipality Officials, Clients, and Outside Firms
- Flag construction issues through an understanding of civil engineering practices/standards as applied in individual municipalities
- Self-check plan set for accuracy of data content and processing of field data
- Add additional layers and draw all entities on appropriate layer
- Work between paperspace and modelspace
- Apply use of X-refs
- Manage folder and design-file structure
- Print, plot, and export digital files (PDF, DXF, etc.)
- Operate plotters and printers
- Follow guidelines and company standards set forth by the Construction Administration department
- Aids in maintaining a safe and respectful work environment by following company policies and procedures
- Responsible for escalating potential hazards and unsafe working conditions
Skills + Experience
- Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or AutoCAD Drafting - preference
- Experience with AutoCAD CIVIL 3D, CAD Standards, and Microsoft Office
- 0 – 2 years land development work experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of municipality codes and standards for site and utility layout
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)

- Work will primarily be in an office setting with limited opportunities to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
- Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
- Additional physical duties may be required as necessary
