Concept Designer
JOB SUMMARY: The Concept Designer - is responsible for producing concept art and designs for print, digital, and multimedia. Participates in concept development and pre-production. Experienced and capable of creative thinking and providing sketches and designs that problem-solve the needs and challenges of the projects. Solid understanding of practical and experiential requirements of theme park attractions and experiences. Uses advanced forms of perspective, composition, and illustration to convey ideas. Effectively collaborates with a wide range of team members to ensure that designs optimally achieve project goals. Showcases an appetite for growth and improvement. Develops designs consistent with UDX (Universal Destinations and Experiences) design quality and brand standards.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates compelling conceptual art, illustration and sketches to convey vision of a concept prior to further development. Produces sketches, storyboards or roughs to communicate ideas and explore design options in creative/client meetings and presentations.
- Conceives, develops and defines all design elements of assigned project that affect guest experience in concert with the Creative Director. Accomplished with many different methods of design and visualization, including, but not limited to: participating in brainstorm sessions, creating sketches, storyboards, POVs, renderings, 3D models, illustrations, plans, sections and elevations. Will work by hand including but not limited to 2D and 3D software.
- Interacts with creative teams and others to support creative concepts and executions of assigned projects. Adheres to client budgets and timeframes. Develops and presents appropriate project presentations to both internal and external audiences to communicate project concept, content and status.
- Maintains solid understanding OF UPR Core Business, Brand Portfolio, Brand Standards and Target Audiences. Ensures consistent application of brand standards. Maintaining a cohesive design in all elements associated with the project through all phases of development.
- Key contributor to the development of the artistic techniques and processes used to define and achieve the visual style of a concept.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Must stay up to date on the latest design trends.
- Mastered composition techniques (multiple elements and interactive pieces) in producing polished final pieces.
- Comprehensive computer photo-retouching and image development skills.
- Demonstrated complete understanding of Color theory and color relationships
- Experience with like targets/demographics (teens/tweens, families and vacationers) a plus.
SCOPE: Responsible for producing concept art, illustrations and designs for print, digital and multimedia. Participates in concept development and pre-production. Experienced and capable of creative thinking and problem solving to address the needs and challenges of projects, uses advanced forms of perspective, composition and illustration to convey idea.
EDUCATION: High school degree or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred in Fine Arts, Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design) field, advertising agency, or in-house agency. Portfolio of relevant creative work.
EXPERIENCE: 3-7 Years: Experience in Theme Park development or like industry; advertising agency, graphic design, entertainment, video game development or illustration. Experience with a wide array of media including print, broadcast, online. Must have knowledge of several different artistic styles including but not limited to; cartoon, realistic, sci-fi and fantasy etc. Must show the ability to design architectural scenes including but not limited to; interior/exterior environments. Extensive traditional fine art skills, training and production experience (illustration, painting, color theory, perspective, 2D and 3 D design required. Degree/Certification from a credited art school preferred.
