Position Overview and Responsibilities:
- Position Title: Environmental Consultant
- Organization: Division of Water Resources Management
- Description: This is a professional position responsible for implementing administrative and technical aspects of the Onsite Sewage Program on a statewide basis. The incumbent will serve as a team member of the Engineering and Research program.
- Responsibilities: The incumbent reviews and approves applications for approval of components of onsite sewage treatment and disposal systems, provides technical consultation to program stakeholders and supports the research coordinator with onsite sewage program research.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze, and interpret scientific or technical data.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to environmental programs.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to work in a team or independently.
Ability to prepare technical and programmatic reports.
Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.

Minimum Qualifications:
- At least six years of verifiable related experience in the areas of engineering, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science. Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university may be used as an alternative for the required six years of experience on a year for year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
- Valid Driver’s License
Position of Special Trust Requirement:
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.
Applicable Job-Specific License or Certifications:
Applicant must possess or be qualified to obtain within 6 months of employment an active Environmental Health Professional Certification in the area of Onsite Sewage Systems, or be a Registered Sanitarian, or the equivalent, all as required in s.381.0101, Florida Statutes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a degree in a related field of engineering (such as civil or environmental), environmental health, environmental science or physical or biological science.
- Knowledge of onsite sewage treatment systems or wastewater treatment.
- Knowledge of onsite sewage treatment system rules in Florida.
- Field experience with onsite sewage treatment systems.
- Environmental Health Professional certification in the area of Onsite Sewage or a Registered Sanitarian.
Pay:
$57,000.
