Your Specific Responsibilities:

• Time sheet and EAR entry within the required time frame
• Subject to emergency duty in the event of a natural disaster
• Completion of all mandatory or assigned trainings within the required time frame
• Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, and/or possible hospital visits at scheduled intervals determined by the local WIC program.
• May counsel women in the WIC clinic.
• Receives a caseload of WIC clients and makes routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned.
• Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including telling them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding. She also helps mothers prevent and handle common breastfeeding concerns.
• Is available outside usual 8 to 5 working hours to new mothers who are having breastfeeding problems.
• Respects each client by keeping her information strictly confidential.
• Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with WIC clients.
• Works in outlying clinics as assigned.
• Refers mothers, according to clinic-established protocols, to the:
  • WIC nutritionist or breastfeeding coordinator
  • Lactation consultant
  • The mother’s physician or nurse
  • Public health programs in the community
  • Social service agencies
• Attends and assists with breastfeeding classes and breastfeeding support group as assigned.
• Attends & participates in monthly staff meetings, in-service trainings, other staff development activities and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate.
• Accurately completes all forms such as leave & attendance records, etc by required deadlines 90% of the time.
• Reads assigned books and materials on breastfeeding that are provided by the supervisor.
• May assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling through special projects and duties as assigned.
• Other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Minimum-

Requires breastfeeding experience.

Willing to be on call during week nights(up to 9pm) and on weekends(8:00 am - 9:00pm)

Willing to travel to clinics using yoyr own vehicle

Bilingual

Preferred-

Been a Participant in WIC program

Breastfed a baby in the last 5 years
