Job Summary

The Medical Collections Specialist is responsible for managing patient balances, processing payments, and assisting patients with billing inquiries. This role requires strong communication, organization, and customer service skills in a fast-paced medical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle inbound/outbound calls regarding patient accounts
• Process payments and set up payment plans
• Review and interpret EOBs and patient ledgers
• Follow up on past-due balances and escalate when needed
• Maintain accurate account documentation and insurance details
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and company policies

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• General health care knowledge.
• Able to read and understand an EOB
• Understanding/compliance of HIPAA laws and regulations.
• Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in person and over the phone
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be well organized, detail-oriented and demonstrate accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
• Able to work in a team environment.
• Ability to operate standard office machines and equipment, including telephones, computers, copy machines, fax machines, calculators, scanners, and shredders.
• Type a minimum of 35 wpm

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3–5 years of experience in medical collections, billing, or customer service preferred
• Knowledge of EOBs and general healthcare billing
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Strong communication and organizational skills
