The Division of Habitat & Species Conservation is comprised of six Sections and two offices. This position works within the [insert name of Section/Office (Section or Office acronym)] of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Division of Habitat and Species Conservation.
Minimum qualifications: A high school diploma and 5 years professional experience in a closely related biological field or laboratory program is required. A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field can substitute for four of the 5 years of required experience.
Additional requirements : Will be required to obtain and maintain a current and valid Florida Driver’s license. Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check. The criminal history check must be completed prior to or within the first three days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Incumbent must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and leadership skills, be able to work well with team members and interact positively with stakeholders and cooperators.
- Knowledge of principles of ecology and wildlife management.
- Knowledge of moist soil management practices.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to plan and organize work assignments.
- Familiar with outdoor recreational activities, including hunting and fishing.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS and GPS and its application to land management and surveys
- Knowledge of wildlife and land management practices, such as prescribed burning and herbicide use for vegetation control.
- Ability to identify common and imperiled wildlife species.
- Ability to operate outdoors under inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to operate 4WD vehicles, ATVs, airboat, 100hp tractors and heavy machinery
- Ability to write technical reports.
Description of Duties:
An exciting opportunity exists to assist with management of one of Florida’s premier waterfowl areas and join a team of biologists and technicians at the T.M. Goodwin Waterfowl Management Area (WMA) in Brevard County, FL. This position serves as the assistant area manager overseeing the management of over 6,480 acres of impoundments and reservoirs in the upper St Johns River basic for waterfowl, wading birds and other wetland dependent species. The successful candidate will assist with all aspects of management of the WMA including application of prescribed fire, water level manipulation, and conducting mechanical and chemical vegetation control (mowing, herbicide, etc.) to manage habitats. This position assists with all aspects of running the WMA including purchasing, annual reports, data entry, GIS, and harvest reports. The incumbent will interact with various partner agencies and the public to provide information concerning wildlife, area management, and public use regulations. The successful candidate will assist with overseeing the operation of the hunter check station to collect biological data of hunter harvested game. This position will serve as a member of the district one burn team assisting on prescribed burns across multiple counties.
