We are seeking a collaborative Transportation Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and maintain electrical systems that support modern transportation infrastructure. This role focuses on intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic signals, lighting, EV charging infrastructure, and other emerging technologies. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering expertise with an understanding of transportation systems to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability across roads, bridges, tunnels, and public transit networks.
The Transportation Electrical Engineer will lead and support projects from concept through completion, utilizing advanced design and analysis software, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, and integrating new technologies—such as smart sensors and connected mobility systems—to support the future of transportation.
This position can be located in any Jacobs office in Florida.
Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida or the ability to obtain licensure within six (6) months.
- 4+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, preferably supporting transportation, ITS, or signal systems projects.
- Proficiency with electrical analysis tools, CADD platforms, data analytics, and a solid understanding of electrical/electronic systems for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and traffic signal infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience designing electrical systems for traffic signals, LED roadway/area lighting, smart signage, and power distribution networks.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for site assessments (up to 30% within the Southeast region).
Ideally, You will also have
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related advanced technical discipline.
- Experience with electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, including system planning, power distribution considerations, and integration with transportation networks.
- Prior design experience with state Departments of Transportation, regional planning organizations, or transit agencies, demonstrating familiarity with public‑sector standards, procedures, and permitting processes.

The base salary range for this position is $69,500.00 to $105,500.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
