Accounting Manager

Department: Accounting Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Supervises: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Accounting Staff

Position Overview

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations of the dealership in accordance with company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role manages the accounting team, prepares and analyzes financial information, and provides accurate and timely reporting to support management decision-making. The Accounting Manager serves as the primary point of contact for accounting-related matters and supports the CFO in day-to-day financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

• Prepare and review daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements

• Record and review routine and recurring accounting transactions

• Perform complex account reconciliations, including cash and credit card accounts

• Analyze financial and statistical data to ensure accuracy and completeness

• Investigate, reconcile, and explain unusual variances or discrepancies in financial reports

• Make necessary corrections and adjustments to ensure accurate reporting

Compliance & Administrative Responsibilities

• Manage motor vehicle tags and registrations for company-owned equipment

• Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and external accounting standards

Communication & Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with management and staff to resolve accounting issues and answer financial questions

• Support the implementation of accounting policies and procedures across the organization

Leadership & Department Management

• Manage, mentor, and develop accounting department staff

• Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional growth within the department

• Cross-train team members to ensure continuity and coverage

• Foster a high-performance culture with a strong work ethic and attention to detail

• Stay informed on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and best practices

• Research and implement improvements to accounting processes and controls as appropriate

Experience, Education, Skills & Knowledge

• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a dealership or similar environment

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools

• Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and GAAP

• Experience working with accounting systems and financial software

• High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

• Strong communication and leadership skills
