Manufacturing Quality Technician
Position Overview
The Manufacturing Quality Technician plays a vital role in maintaining product quality and consistency within a manufacturing environment. This position combines hands-on quality tasks with clerical responsibilities, such as implementing corrective actions, maintaining documentation, and supporting quality processes both on the floor and through data entry/reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Inspection & Testing
- Perform visual inspections, measurements, and functional tests on raw materials, components, and finished products.
- Use appropriate tools and instruments to conduct inspections and tests.
- Document inspection/test results with accuracy and maintain detailed records.
Clerical & Documentation Duties
- Prepare reports summarizing inspection findings, test results, and quality metrics.
- Maintain documentation including inspection logs, non-conformance reports, and corrective action records.
- Enter and manage data within quality management systems.
Defect Identification & Analysis
- Identify, document, and analyze defects, deviations, or non-conformities during production.
- Collaborate with quality and production teams to identify root causes and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Process Monitoring & Improvement
- Monitor key process parameters for compliance with quality standards.
- Participate in process audits and help develop/update SOPs and work instructions.
- Recommend and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Calibration & Maintenance
- Calibrate and maintain inspection equipment to ensure measurement accuracy.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of quality tools.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Stay informed about current quality standards, regulations, and best practices.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to quality improvement projects and cross-functional initiatives.
- Identify areas for process optimization and waste reduction.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or additional education are a plus.
- Previous experience as a quality technician (or similar) in manufacturing.
- Solid knowledge of quality control principles and inspection techniques.
- Proficiency with measurement tools and testing equipment.
- Strong computer skills (spreadsheets, databases, quality management software).
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical/problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with quality systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and manage time well.
- Comfortable working in both hands-on and office-based settings.
