Salary Range: $ 49,958.48 - $ 98,281.04

Scope & Purpose:

The position performs complex or specialized accounting work at the technical level. Work involves accounting and fiscal management for a mid-sized agency and leadership for specialized accounting functions. Performs full range professional accounting duties for assigned accounting function(s). 

Essential Functions & Duties:

  • Verifies purchase order information to invoices; processes invoices for payment; reconciles work in process by comparing between systems, both computer & hard copies. Maintaining records for multiple funds and departments.
  • Servicing vendors and staff by answering inquiries; reconciling statement balances; coordinating with Port staff to ensure workflow cycle gets completed or assist in resolving disputed items.
  • File maintenance - updating databases (including accounting software; excel); scanning documents and certain paper-based and email based systems for workflow.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and/or research. Using various techniques and knowledge of systems to create new information as requested by various internal and external users - not limited to information requested by auditors; public records; internal staff for variance analysis.
  • New vendor set up using W-9's including consideration for 1099 implications and fund accounting. 1099 review and validations.
  • Assist in month end closing and year end audit; assist with other projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures in a computerized environment. Understanding of financial chart of accounts and general corporate procedures for A/P internal controls for mid-sized entities.
  • Strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to communication effectively verbally and in writing to enable interactions with employees and vendors in a professionally manner.
  • Ability to type, including 10-key by touch.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Dynamics GP accounting software or other ERP software. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to use discretion and independent judgment in evaluating information. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, confidently and professionally with PTB officials and employees, PTB tenants and the general public, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to reconcile financial accounts and records.
  • Ability to maintain files and records and prepare reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.
  • Must possess honesty, integrity and sound professional judgment. 

Requirements

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or related field; and
  • Two or more years of experience as a professional accountant or experience directly related to the position duties, including bookkeeping; certain data processing (with workflow) experience;
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies listed above.

Special Requirements:

  • Incumbent must possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or capable of obtaining one within thirty days from the date of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a seaport security background check.

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily indoors though the employee will be required to go out of the office on errands. Employee will be in contact with chemicals (i.e., toner for copier and facsimile machines), and materials (i.e. paper) normally found at offices. Employee will also be exposed to minimal noise and vibration.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequent computer use.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
