Mechanical HVAC Engineer
Your impact
At Jacobs, we strive to make a positive impact on people’s lives everywhere by delivering solutions that elevate communities and shape the future of our cities. Grow your career with a company that inspires and empowers you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow, and succeed – today and into tomorrow.
In our Cities & Places group, we partner with public and private clients to design buildings and spaces that enhance quality of life, support resilient communities, and create environments where people live, work, learn, and thrive. From civic and cultural facilities to education, healthcare, transportation, commercial, and mixed‑use developments, we understand that great buildings are more than structures—they’re experiences shaped by thoughtful engineering and integrated design.
We’re looking for a high‑energy Mechanical HVAC Engineer to join our Buildings team. You’ll help deliver innovative, sustainable, and efficient mechanical system designs for a wide range of building types. You’ll collaborate with architects, engineers, and designers; perform field assessments; interface with clients and vendors; size and select equipment; and prepare construction design packages that bring our clients’ visions to life.
You’ll be accountable for the schedule and technical quality of your engineering tasks as you gain familiarity with client expectations, project scope, budget, and schedule. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary, highly interactive team to establish design criteria, develop optimized system solutions, create calculations, and generate construction documents. Your role keeps our projects moving forward, and we’ll support you with the tools and resources you need to succeed.
Highlights of Your Contributions Will Include
- Layout and design of HVAC systems for a variety of building types, including commercial, civic, education, healthcare, transportation, retail, and other vertical infrastructure projects.
- Development of design criteria for HVAC systems, including comfort heating and cooling, systems requiring precise temperature or humidity control, specialized pressurization needs, and clean or controlled environments.
- Preparation of conceptual and preliminary design documents, including load calculations, equipment sizing and selection, system narratives, and schematic-level drawings.
- Development and layout of ductwork and mechanical systems based on design criteria and project requirements.
- Production of final design documents, including specifications, sequences of operation, piping layouts, and construction drawings for systems such as chilled water, heating water, ventilation, and other building mechanical systems.
- Coordination with architects and other engineering disciplines to ensure fully integrated building designs.
Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional experience in the design of HVAC systems for buildings.
- Extensive experience with Revit.
- Extensive experience with Load Calculation Software (Carrier HAP and/or Trane Trace).
- Thorough knowledge of codes and standards related to building mechanical systems (e.g., IMC, FBC, ASHRAE, NFPA).
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Experience in the design of plumbing and building utility systems.
