Position Overview
Cornerstone Learning Community is seeking a responsible, safety-focused, and dependable Part-Time Bus Driver to support student transportation to and from school, field trips, and special events.
This role is essential to ensuring the safe, timely, and positive transportation experience for students. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to safety, professionalism, patience, and care for children, while maintaining excellent driving records and adherence to all transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
The following is a subset of responsibilities and is not inclusive of all duties:
- Safely operate a school bus for daily routes, field trips, and school-related events
- Ensure the safe loading and unloading of students at designated stops
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any concerns
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly bus environment
- Follow all traffic laws, school policies, and transportation safety procedures
- Maintain student safety, supervision, and appropriate behavior on the bus
- Communicate effectively with school administration regarding routes, delays, or incidents
- Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and inspection documentation
- Support emergency procedures as needed in coordination with school leadership
- Ensure confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with students and families
- Assist with occasional transportation-related school needs, as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus endorsement (required)
- Clean driving record with no serious violations
- Previous experience as a school bus driver preferred
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws and school transportation safety procedures
- Ability to safely operate a school bus in varying weather and traffic conditions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, reliability, and a student-centered mindset
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Background check and fingerprint clearance required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle
- Ability to assist students safely when needed (boarding/exiting)
- Ability to perform pre-trip inspections requiring bending, walking, and light physical activity
- Visual and hearing ability to ensure safe driving and student supervision
