JOB TITLE: DSP - Gross Motor Instructor/For Adults with Disabilities
DEPARTMENT: Venice
REPORTS TO: Program Manager
SUMMARY: The Gross Motor Instructor supports the Program Manager in providing leadership, oversight, and direction for Loveland Center’s Gross Motor Program, designed for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and physical support needs. They assist in fostering independence through gross motor skill development, sensory integration, and daily living activities, helping participants integrate with their surroundings.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities implementing occupational therapy, special education, or related techniques. Must have a driver’s license and access to a reliable motor vehicle.

DUTIES:
- Fully adheres to Loveland Center's Code of Ethics and Unifying Values.
- Maintain professional standards of the highest quality with regards to health, safety, program room management and public relations.
- Acquire and maintain proficient level of technological skills as applied to job requirements and industry standards.
- Be a part of the development of individualized implementation plans with input from each assigned participant, managers, and family members.
- Work within prescribed individualized implementation plans and behavior plans for each participant, monitoring progress and giving input on setting annual goals.
- Maintain an individualized record for each assigned participant through daily notes, documenting attendance, goal(s), community integration, rights and responsibilities, current level(s) of functioning, plan(s) for attaining goals, any progress/ regression, and more in accordance with Medicaid Waiver Handbook.
- Document each participant's monthly, quarterly, and annual progress by completely quarterly and annual summaries.
- Assign duties to and supervise volunteers in the program.
- Understand and provide instruction related to all aspects of applied academics, including but not limited to reading, writing and arithmetic.
- Role model for and guide participants in understanding and developing good work habits and social skills.
- Support participants in activities of daily living including feeding, toileting, behavior management, socialization, communication, and more.
- Attend in-service programs and staff meeting(s) as required for effective planning and programming.
- Supervise participants during all activities including special activities, community outings, and time in the program buildings.
- Participate in additional assigned duties including transportation of participants to and from program, after hours programs, cleaning duties and more.
- Participate in trainings to ensure state mandated trainings/ annual continuing education requirements are met and First Aid, HIV and CPR certifications are kept current.
- Maintain/keep all equipment in safe and good working conditions, including keeping company vehicles that you are assigned to drive free from dents, nicks, scratches, and other hazards that can make driving company vehicles challenging.
- Keep your assigned program area clean and safe.
- Perform all other duties not specifically identified, as assigned by the Adult Day Training Manager, Area Director, Chief Programs Officer, Chief Operating Officer, or President/CEO.
- Assist in maintaining professional standards of the highest quality with regard to safety, gross motor training, staff, and participant supervision.
- Help maintain lines of communication among participants, parents/guardians, staff, volunteers, Program Manager, and administrative team regarding all aspects of gross motor and sensory activities.
- Support oversight of all program activities in your service area and promote an atmosphere conducive to gross motor skill development and independence.
- With the staff and Program Manager, assist with the design, development, and implementation of participant activities, including stretching, sensory integration, and community outings. Utilize state-of-the-art training methods and materials. Including computers, iPads/tablets, various applications as well as written and unwritten materials, conversations, active activities, and community integration techniques.
- Help ensure all health, safety, and center standards are met.
- Assist in implementing new gross motor and sensory programs that serve the needs of the center.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that would normally be met by a Gross Motor Instructor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the Instructor is regularly required to talk and hear; frequently is required to stand, walk, sit; and use hands. The Instructor is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Instructor may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that a Gross Motor Instructor encounters while performing the essential functions of their job. Primarily, an Instructor is subject to indoor and outdoor conditions in a therapeutic setting and subject to low to moderate noise levels with periodic disruptions in routine.
