The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Plumber OPS within the Maintenance Unit. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- This position installs, maintains and repairs plumbing and heating fixtures and accessories.
- Installs, maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures such as faucets, sinks, valves, vents, water coolers and fountains, etc., in a professional manner to ensure optimum customer satisfaction.
- Required to operate State owned vehicles.
- Opens clogged drains and maintains sewer lines.
- Maintains high and low pressure steam boilers, ensures safety devices and controls are operating properly, cleans boilers, hot water heaters, etc.
- Requisitions materials needed to complete jobs.
- Cuts and threads pipe for installation of water and steam lines.
- Repairs Kitchen and Laundry equipment as necessary.
- Performs duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:
- Knowledge of the procedures and methods for installing, repairing and maintaining plumbing and heating fixtures and accessories.
- Skill in using pipe cutters, reamers, threading machines and other specialized tools and equipment.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to engage in physical activities such as bending, pushing, pulling, stooping and walking.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders.
- Ability to work in inclement weather, be exposed to loud noises, and occasionally work in close, dark areas.
- This position also has contact with people we serve, which requires the incumbent to be certified in CPR, ACT, First Aid and verbal/basic aggression control techniques.
- Ability to ambulate grounds.
- Ability to read blueprints.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in plumbing.
- Vocational/technical training in plumbing and pipefitting can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience.
- In accordance with Florida Statute 322, possession of a Classified Driver's License (Class E Driver’s license).
