State & Sales Tax Analyst

Kforce has a client that is seeking a State & Sales Tax Analyst in Lakeland, FL. Key Responsibilities:

• Review, organize, and address a backlog of state tax notices and correspondence
• Research and resolve sales tax and employer/payroll tax discrepancies across multiple states
• Maintain an understanding of state tax requirements, terminology, regulations, and agency processes
• Support multi-state sales tax and payroll tax compliance activities
• Review tax accounts across multiple subsidiaries and business entities and understand how tax requirements and obligations may differ
• Analyze historical tax records, identify discrepancies, and develop action plans to bring accounts current
• Contact state and local tax agencies by phone and through online portals to research issues, update account information, and resolve outstanding matters
• Establish and organize access to state tax portals and ensure login credentials and account information are properly documented and maintained
• Create and maintain spreadsheets to track tax notices, discrepancies, outstanding issues, agency communications, and resolution status
• Utilize Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, and other formulas, to analyze and reconcile tax data
• Review tax filings and supporting documentation to identify inconsistencies and areas requiring remediation
• Monitor and stay current on state tax notices, changes, and requirements
• Assist with cleanup and catch-up efforts related to historical tax obligations
• Educate and provide guidance to internal team members regarding sales tax and employer tax requirements
• Identify potential issues and proactively recommend solutions to improve tax processes and compliance
• Support ongoing tax compliance activities following completion of the initial cleanup project
• 7+ years of relevant state and local tax experience
• Strong experience with multi-state sales tax - this is a must-have
• Hands-on experience with employer/payroll taxes, payroll tax withholdings, and related state requirements
• Experience working with multiple states, subsidiaries, and/or business entities
• Demonstrated experience researching and resolving complex tax discrepancies
• Strong understanding of state tax terminology, notices, filing requirements, and agency processes
• Comfortable communicating directly with state and local tax agencies and navigating tax-related conversations independently
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, and data reconciliation
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple issues simultaneously
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex tax cleanup initiatives
